"Before the calamity. Before the rot set in. Before the Blackguards and the Forlorn Hope marched.
There was an age of wealth and power — master craftsmen forged blades fit for kings, knights grew fat on coin and blood, women wove their own webs of influence, and lords ruled with iron hands.
Wars raged in the name of the king, calling the boldest and the strongest to seize glory — or die chasing it.

That meant every blacksmith, craftsman, and worker strove to give their best. The most skilled members of the guilds approached the status of scholars and devoted their entire lives to perfecting the crafts they were so deeply committed to.

In these times, armors of unquestionable quality appeared, forged with techniques that only the greatest of masters could replicate.

All of this, of course, is now lost to time.
What remains are a few forgotten scrolls, passed down through generations scarred by hardship and suffering, now left to rot on dust-choked shelves and in the deepest shadows of abandoned strongholds.
Only a handful of these schematics survived the devastating scourge of rot, scattered across the broken world — waiting to be unearthed, claimed, and brought back to glory!

The forge of excellence and perfection awaits you — step forward, and let your hands reignite the flame that shapes destiny."

This series of mods aims to introduce historically inspired armors into the game.
This one is dedicated to the Jousting tournaments.

Armors added by this mod are improved versions of the vanilla items, which serve as the base for crafting these modded armors.
Jousting Stechzeug was extremely impractical, meant to protect the knight at all costs from heavy impact, i tried to make this reality known on the stats of the armors.

You will need a specific schematic, which can be found in newly generated ruins or may appear at the Treasure Trader once he restocks after you install this mod.
Due to the rarity of these schematics, their price won’t exactly be a bargain.

Anyway, this is a simple content mod at heart, with a bit of code, to stop head from moving, since the helmet should be firmly connected to the chestplate. In case of any bugs, as always let me know.
I’m aware that the recipes are VERY expensive, and that’s intentional — these armors represent very late-game technology. On the bright side, once crafted, the armor is easy to maintain.

Of course, all feedback is welcome, and the availability of this armor in survival mode can be rebalanced in the future if there’s enough pushback.

Compatibilities:
Combat Overhaul
Useful Traders

Hope you enjoy!

From the Memoirs of Grandmagister Cardinalis Thomas IX. The Pure

[Scene: The forge is unusually quiet. No frantic hammering. No flying sparks.
Instead, an enormous armor stands in the center like a steel monument.
It is bulbous and exaggerated, the helmet a slit-eyed monstrosity.
Thomas circles it slowly, hands on hips.]
Thomas:
…Master.
Master Eldred (carefully polishing a vambrace):
Yes.
Thomas:
I’m trying very hard to understand this.
Master Eldred:
Good. That means it’s working.
Thomas (gesturing broadly):
It can’t turn its head.
What if the man inside falls over—
Master Eldred:
—he will lie there and contemplate his life choices.
Thomas:
So… completely impractical.
Master Eldred (finally looking up, offended):
Impractical?
Thomas, this is jousting armor.
Thomas:
Exactly.
[He taps the massive breastplate. It barely rings — too thick.]
Thomas:
No walking.
No fighting.
No breathing enthusiastically.
You could survive a meteor strike in this, but heaven forbid you need to scratch your nose.
Master Eldred (steps closer, voice rising):
YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO SCRATCH YOUR NOSE.
Thomas:
That feels like an oversight.
Master Eldred:
This armor exists for one sacred purpose:
to keep the man inside alive whatever happens outside.
Thomas:
So… safety over sense?
Master Eldred (slams a gauntlet onto the anvil):
Safety over everything.
Thomas (grinning):
Ah yes.
The noblest of callings.
Master Eldred (ignoring him, pacing):
That shoulder? Reinforced to catch the balista profectile.
That helmet? Narrow slit so the splinters don’t redecorate the rider’s brain.
That breastplate? Thick enough to shame castle gates.
Thomas:
And heavy enough to sink a ship.
Master Eldred:
If the knight drowns inside it, at least he won’t die as a coward!
Thomas (tilting his head, studying the armor again):
You know what it looks like, master?
Master Eldred:
A masterpiece?
Thomas:
A rook.
[Eldred pauses.]
Thomas:
Square.
Bulky.
Straight lines.
Looks like it moves forward and nothing else.
Honestly, put it on a checkered floor and I’d expect it to shout “checkmate”.
[A long silence.]
Master Eldred (slowly):
…That is the worst comparison I have ever heard.
Thomas:
But you see it.
Master Eldred (grumbling):
…I see it.
Thomas (smiling):
So the knight wears a rook.
Master Eldred (points a finger at him):
Do not repeat that.
Thomas:
I absolutely will.
Master Eldred (sighs, then smirks despite himself):
Listen, Thomas.
Jousting armor is not meant to be elegant.
It is meant to survive stupidity at high speed.
And in that… it excels.
Thomas (nodding slowly):
Fair.
[He pauses, then pats the armor.]
Thomas:
Still looks like it belongs on a chessboard.
[Master Eldred raises his palm, trying to slap snarky Thomas, but he manages
to escape the forge unscathed. The steel rook stands unmoving,
awaiting its knight, ready to charge — straight ahead.]

Thank you for the update!

thatKazzy, Apr 27th at 6:54 PM

Hey, was just wondering if it was an oversight that this mod got missed in the big 1.22 update push you did a week ago. Thanks for an amazing mod series!

VanduJunior, Feb 27th at 3:25 PM

Incredibly excited for the conquistadors

Cerre, Feb 24th at 3:45 PM

It is fixed, you're really fast!

AladarCZ , Feb 23rd at 2:57 PM

Cerre Thanks for the report, should be fixed in the latest patch

Cerre, Feb 22nd at 12:46 AM

Stechzeug helmets seem to have broken models and textures

RumpleRatskin, Feb 13th at 6:26 PM

I had a great idea for an armour mod

simply, an early-mid game man-at-arms or other such mod that has singular sets of armour from different periods

example: a pike & shot era Viennan man-at-arms

Megamelons, Feb 12th at 10:45 PM (modified Feb 13th at 2:03 AM)

AladarCZ Will probably need to fix the compatibility as its causing Treasure Hunters to disappear/unspawnable with the most recent version (2.3.5) of Useful Traders.

AladarCZ , Feb 11th at 4:26 PM

StroudEN Good point. changed to 8 in 1.0.2 :-)

StroudEN, Feb 11th at 2:30 PM

Hey, question. Steel plate stacks in vanilla are a max of 8, yet Joust chestplate requires 10 in one spot, is this intentional?

HB866, Feb 9th at 10:20 PM

Babe wake up peak has been added

RayTC, Feb 9th at 3:14 PM

vgh, frogmouths, very nice

snagawag, Feb 9th at 2:14 PM

incredible stuff, those helmets are stunning

CombineRogan, Feb 9th at 10:41 AM

Amazing as always AldarCZ! Can't play without your mods.
Also have you ever considered making a mod of Italian armours, Such as Milanese Brigandines and Plated armors?
