Latest release (for Vintage Story 1.21.0 - 1.22.0, potentially outdated):
SimpleLamellar-1.0.1.zip 1-click install
What does this mod do?
This mod lets you craft the previously uncraftable lamellae and their armour for iron, meteoric iron, and steel.
How?
You need a metal plate for each lamellae item, plus a chisel and hammer of the same metal or better. Each lamellae you craft will take 8 durability off each tool.
What's the armour like?
Same price as brigandine, slightly harder to craft, slightly less protective, but much easier to wear with fewer downsides.
Quite a bit cheaper than chain, easier to craft, but also slightly worse.
This armour breaks very quickly compared to plate and scale, but is cheap to repair, and is much less restricting to wear in day-to-day life.
Combat Overhaul compatible?
Nope! But you are free to make your own Combat Overhaul compatible version using my jsons and textures as a base. Please credit me in the mod description if you upload it to the mod DB.
What files does this add/change?
This mod adds three textures: one for each armor.
It also adds recipes to create the lamellae, and craft and repair the armour.
Finally, it patches armor.json to add Meteoric Iron to the lamellar armor pool (method: addmerge), and alters the stats (method: replace) of vanilla iron and steel armour (because they're worse than bronze chain in the vanilla config, probably due to not being touched for several versions).

Goated fix, I always wanted late lamellar armor, it makes sence why it is hard to make late game lamellar armor, because its hard to melt the irons and steels. But maybe that opens up a door for some sort of expansion mod that allows for more intricate metallurgy and smelting of iron and steel
ZeroAresIV I went for a walk with my dog and had a think about this and realised you're actually absolutely right. Lamellar armour's whole identity is its ease of crafting, ease of wear, and relative cheapness, at the cost of protection.
So what I did is added a recipe to turn 2 plates into 3 lamellae, so essentially in bulk the armour is now 33% cheaper at 1.333 ingots per lamellae, then nerfed the armour slightly (~5%) to compensate. This means a whole set now costs 26 ingots, compared to chain's 40, brigandine's 26 and castable lamellar's 19.
Thanks for changing my mind on this!
ZeroAresIV Hello, I did this for a couple of reasons:
1. Chiselling lamellae from plates is a more wasty process than compared to pouring molten metal.
2. To make the armour competitive with other armours, I made it stronger, and increased the cost as a compensation. If I left the values at vanilla, steel lamellar armour body would cost 11 ingots of steel, but would provide worse protection and have bigger debuffs than a copper chain body, which would cost 22 ingots of copper. If this stayed the case then I was afraid that lamellar would be completely unviable.
Lamellae armor usually is 1 ingot for 1 lamellae. This effectively makes it double the price for the stronger armor tiers.
