So, I HATE the rust-coloured chandeliers. They aren't sold often enough, they don't match much of anything, and you can't craft them. Therefore, I did something about it 😁Use with Smithing+ for best metalcrafting results!!
Metal Chandelier Variants:
All vanilla variants of metal can be used to craft chandeliers. The exceptions for this are, of course, metals that are not fully implemented in the base game - i.e. uranium and stainless steel. As these metals are not actually craftable, you're not going to be able to craft the related chandelier. They are, however, still available in the creative menu.
Rods and pounder caps are the items used to craft the chandeliers in the crafting grid, and the variants of those needed have also been added. Additionally, chandeliers can be deconstructed in the crafting grid using a chisel. The crafting recipe for all chandelier variants requires the following list of items; one rod, eight candle cups, a solder iron, and one piece of solder. Of course, the rod and poundercaps must be made of matching metal - and this produces one chandelier of the coresponding type.
Craftable Rusty Chandelier:
This does not touch the vanilla chandelier, it is a new object that falls in line with our candle-compat so it can be used with candle mods! Yes, it is named out of my spite for rust-colored chandeliers - and it's crafting also reflects the rust. Place any of the craftable chandeliers (any of the metal variants) in a barrel of 50L limewater for two days, this will consume 5L of the limewater and return to you a Rusty Chandelier. It cannot be deconstructed into metal bits, like the metal variants can, as I'm pretty sure the same method of breaking down would just turn the things into dust. I might add this as a deconstruction option in the future however.
NEW - Craftable Torch Brackets
All vanilla variants of metal can now be used to craft metal torch brackets. These are very similar to the vanilla torchholders, but with nice square bands instead of the jagged tops. As with the metal chandelier variants, the exception to these will be metals that are not fully implemented in the base game - namely, uranium and stainless steel. And, like the craftable chandeliers, these options are still available in the creative menu.
"Nails and strips" variants have been added in order to craft the torch brackets in the crafting grid. Torch brackets can also be deconstructed in the crafting grid with a chisel. The crafting recipe for all torch bracket variants require the following; two candle cups, four nails and strips, a solder iron, and one piece of solder. As above, the nails and pounder caps have to be made of matching metals. This recipe produces two torch brackets of the coresponding type.
NEW - Craftable Aged Torchholder
Toss your new-fangled torch brackets into a barrel with 10L of limewater, and in two days you will gain an equal number of the vanilla aged torch holders. This process consumes 5L of the limewater. You can do up to 5 in one barrel at a time!
NEW - Candle Cups
Candle cups are a new metal object that can be smithed on an anvil. They are required to craft chandeliers and torch brackets, but are also their own stand-alone lighting object. Place and fill with one candle! These obey our universal candle compatibility (details below). Can now also be placed on walls!!
Universal Candle Compatibility:
As of v2.0.0 ChandelierCraft chandeliers is compatible with any candle, provided it has the "ItemCandle" class in its code. This glorious bit of code was written by my bestie Paxus! Please note, this compatibility only applies to the variant chandeliers and candle cups added by ChandelierCraft. It does not touch on vanilla chandeliers at all.
Currently, the candles in Colorful Candles and Soap and Lye: Lather and Bloom appear correctly and display detailed names when on our chandeliers. When chandeliers loaded with these fancy candles are broken, you will recieve the fancy candles back!
Please note, the last candle you place on a chandelier will change all other candles to that type.
There is only partial compatibility with More Candles and CandleStory; they can be placed in our chandeliers, but this will revert them to vanilla candles (including appearances and naming). You will also recieve the vanilla candles if the chandelier is broken, not the type of candle you filled it with. If there are other unnamed mods that add candles, they should recieve the same treatment as a baseline, as complete compatility will still require an update to our chandelier objects in order to view names/appearances of said candles.
Wishlist:
- Large chandeliers (unclear if they will be a single huge block, or four "pieces" placed together - maybe both)
- Small chandeliers (single and double-candle variants)
- A metal cup object, to replace the use of poundercaps in recipes
- A "stacking" placement function - for looooooong chandeliers that would hang down the middle of, say, a circular stairwell
- Vanilla chandeliers that are craftable/compatible like all the metal variants
- Update the compat to allow multiple colours of candles to exist on the same chandelier
- Rope/chains to hang chandeliers lower than at ceiling level, in case the roof is WAY up there (possibly even including hanging from support beams)
- VS Roofing compatibility (for all of the above) with unfilled roofing blocks
- Post and Beams compatibility

NEW! A craftable Rusty Chandelier. Updated: Fully-compatible candles will now drop when the chandelier they are on is broken (ie, Soap and Lye candles and Colorful Candles). Partially-compatible candles will still revert to and drop vanilla candles.

The big compatability update!!! Written by my darling partner in crime Cavemane. If it is a candle, having the "ItemCandle" class, it should go onto chandeliers! Confirmed with "Soap and Lye: Lather and Bloom" and "Colorful Candles" at this time.

Initial release! Notes:

BokuNoRhythem - ooo, didn't know this existed, thank you for pointing it out!!!
I would love to see the torch holders from this mod be compatible with Posts and Beams.
Kalmorph - I had a feeling it wasn't, please don't fuss or feel bad at all; we are all learning. That's the cool part about being human ^.^ And I love the excitement, truly. You just want cool things to happen.
Related news: Dana and I just connected on Discord, so learning is happening.
You're totally right, I'm very sorry for the wild suggestion, I'm not a modder so I don't really think too much about these things, I only had the final results in my head and completely forgot about all the underlying things that comes with it. I hope both don't see me as invasive, it was not my intention.
Kalmorph - as nice a thought as that is, ChandelierCraft is mine and Pax's responsibility. Dana has so many of their own mods to worry about, plus the insanity of real life, it's a bit wild to suggest they go make a full video tutorial. That's a crazy amount of bonus work to suggest on their part, especially when making videos is already not something they already do.
And, with genuine respect, offering my mod up on the altar of "go make your own version of this mod using your library as a tutorial" is wrong of anyone, other than me or Pax, to do. Dana knows that, it's probably part of why they have never used someone elses mod as a platform for making a tutorial to use their libraries. ChandelierCraft is our work. What is done with it is up to Pax and I - and that is alongside being very pro "use my code". It's a matter of respect, for the work Pax and I have done, to ask us first.
I do feel I need to take a strong stance on this early on, I apologize that you just happened to be the first person to trip on my opinions of mod ownership. It would have been okay if you had led with "hey would it be okay if..." Even as a suggestion, ask us first. Especially as a suggestion for someone else, ask us first. I have complete faith in that Dana is the sort of dev who will reach out and ask first if they want to do anything with any of my mods, so it's not opening the door to dangers this time - but not all devs are like that.
And, as an aside, this mod isn’t positioned as a demo or tutorial candidate. ChandelierCraft is not a big mod, I am the first person to say so, but it is a mod with unique function (speficically our universal candle compatibility code) - and it is going to get bigger. I don't want to volunteer either our work, or Dana’s time, like that - it's presumptious.
I am genuinely not trying to pick a fight here. This is just a subject with a lot of strong feelings all around.
I feel that's not the first time I see someone wanting to use the ARL (Attribute Rendering Library) but having no idea how to use it, I think last time was with VS Roofing thread on Discord, but not sure, could be somewhere else. That said, I would highly suggest DanaCraluminum to take this mod (or another one that's easier) and try converting it use ARL themselves while recording with the intent of showing how to use it and share it lates to anyone wanting to do something similar.
Minaray - guess what connects to walls now ^.^
DanaCraluminum - omg first, hecking honoured that you'd even pop into my comments section.
I didn't use Attribute Rendering Library at the outset because I just genuinely couldn't figure out how to use it, and that's still true. Our asset load is also really small - I'm sure that'll change at some point. For the little we have added, patching vanilla assets was just less complicated to figure out. As much as it's obviously a goal of ours to collab with other modders, keeping ChandelierCraft dependency-free while it's still small enough to do so is an asset.
I personally still have so much to learn, where coding and modelling is concerned - and without that background, I feel trying to wade through other peoples code isn't something I'm equipped to do myself. My partner, Pax, certainly could, but you have to move at the pace of your weakest link, you know? I need more direction than your documentation offers, which is simply a shortfalling of mine. I want to use ConfigLib too, but have had similar struggles understanding the documentation there. It's all a process. In theory, ARL will be a part of this at some point in the future.
Do you plan to use Attribute Rendering Library for variants instead of using VariantGroups, if not, why?
ChandelierCraft is friendly with1.22-pre.1 of Vintage Story - including our universal candle compat!! It works exactly as it did in 1.21, please read the note in the mod description for full details on that.
Minaray - its on our list of things to add, don't you worry ^.^
very great mod ! however it's too bad candle cups doesn't connect to walls when placed against them, it could be great to be able to hang a single candle to a wall in a pretty way !
Nyxara - fix'd ^.^
Nyxara - oh thats a weird bug, thank you for reporting!!!
when I break a chandelier instead of getting the scented candles back from soap and lye I get normal ones back
EnderMelody - thank you for posting this!! Working on it now!
getting an error with just this mod v2 on vs 1.21.5:
looks like you are specifying a specific position in the list which is bigger than the list. you can switch the '20' in the path "/variantgroups/0/states/20" to a '-' to append to the end of the list so you dont have to worry about specific positions in the list. so path would now be "/variantgroups/0/states/-". also its better to use the op "addmerge" instead of "add" for better compatability. you should probably do this for ALL the patches as well.
ShadyZer0 - on the list of stuff to figure ouuuuut ^.^
Love this mod, Still I hate how there is only a 1x1x1 chandelier.... I would love to see a 2x2x1 chandelier or even bigger, I always have a giant hallway or a meeting hall, and I always have a 2 block wide door.
unHallowed Thank you again.
Waynestonebeard - I've got a bestie who's helping me put together a compat. update that should include almost anything that is a candle!! So far, testing on Soap and Lye candles and Colorful Candles has gone well :)
unHallowed Thank you individual of much basedness.
Waynestonebeard - I don't see why not, just a matter of figuring out how to do it ^.^ I've got it on my list now!
Might be a little too much to ask, But if possible could you make these chandeliers compatible with Colorful Candles?.
Big brain moment - this is a great recipe for soldering!! More use for solder is never a bad thing ^.^
No problem. Yeah, I've done that plenty of times, double checked before uploading and still end up missing something or changed my mind about something an hour or so later.lol
Ameletzi - omg CONGRATS!!!
Maybe you've seen that "reuse old containers" mod (can't think of the name right now) - always thought old pounder caps would fit in that for turning them into planters :P
Calminaion - thank you for pointing that out!! Can never release something without doing an update within a couple hours, right? XD
unHallowed - Don't sweat it, I have no clue too
I literally created my first mod about an hour before you posted this one XD
I've got so much to learn as well
Plus pounder caps works really nicely in the game as is
I can finally reuse the old caps I had
Looks really good, will def have to use this in my playthrough, only small issue I noticed when looking at the recipes Electrum pounder cap has the item code instead of the item name.
Ameletzi - HECK YEAH YOU DO
Ideally I'd have a metal cup instead of pounder caps, but I'm not quite cool enough yet to make my own smithing recipes/objects from scratch yet. Pounder caps are just as close as I could get :P Work in progress though!
Woah! I got beaten to the punch on making this mod, and the recipe you went with makes so much more sense XD
Thank you so much for saving me all this extra time.
I get to have chandeliers everywhere!!!
