Latest release (for Vintage Story 1.22.0 - 1.22.6, potentially outdated):
PemmicanAndTofu1.2.1.zip 1-click install
Do you have bushmeat and berries? No idea what to do with them? Smash them into pemmican with stone or a hammer, let it dry and shelve it. Or put it in a stew or soup. Or wrap it in linen and keep it for the next year.
Wish you could do more with soybeans? Soak them in water, then use a fruit press to mash it into raw soymilk (cook it before you drink it). Curdle it with a pickled veggie, add salt and make vegan cottage cheese, or turn it into tofu.
New Items:
- Pemmican
- Raw: Crafted from two bushmeat/redmeat, 3 fruits, 1 fat, and a stone or hammer (hammer not consumed obviously). Needs to dry before being eaten, or can be cooked on a campfire immediately
- Dried: Takes 3 days to dry. Preserves for a long while and can be eaten or put into stew or soup as extra protein.
- Cooked: Fired over a campfire into a delicious bar of bushmeat and fruit.
- Soymilk
- Soak soybeans in a barrel of water for 24 hours (1L per beans)
- Press the soaked beans in a fruit press before they dry up (or you will have rehydrate them in the barrel) and get raw soymilk
- Cook the raw soymilk in a cooking pot to unlock its full potential
- You now have soymilk to drink and enjoy, or transform further into tofu.
- Tofu
- Curdle 10L of soymilk using a piece of pickled vegetable for 3 days.
- When you have a quantity of curdled soymilk you desire, you can seal the barrel for 1 hour and it will produce 2 pieces of tofu per 10L of soymilk.
- Can be cooked on a campfire. Cooked tofu in meals will give Protein instead of Dairy (for balance reason and because I cannot put two different satiety types in one item)
1.2.0: I was not satisfied with the process of making soymilk and tofu and so I changed it to something much closer to real life soymilk making.
1.1.0: Updated to 1.22
1.0.4:
Fixed GUI mismatch between tooltip and inventory itemstack
1.0.3:
Added variant recipe with redmeat
Fixed long drying time in shelves and containers by making the transition process Curing instead of Drying due to vanilla behavior of drying mechanics
Added ability to stack dried and raw pemmican like ingots
Removed salted pemmican (unused)
1.0.2:
Fixed crash when opening condensed soymilk in the handbook
Fixed missing meal texture for boiled/cooked soybeans
1.0.1:
Initial mod release
Added proper credits to MrFlame's Long-term Food mod
Known Issues:
-GUI Icon for pemmican and tofu items are weirdly offset only in the tooltip Thank you jayu for the fix
-Tofu soup may yield a weird meal name
-If you ground dry your raw pemmican, the texture won't change, but it does show up as dried pemmican when you hover on it and pick it up (texture gets fixed when the stack is at 64 for some reason, but reverts if you take one)
-Putting boiled/cooked soybean in place of raw soybean in stew causes the meal to be invisible (use raw soybean for now until I can fix this) FIXED IN 1.0.2
-Opening the Condensed soymilk recipe in Handbook crashes the game (Hotfix coming soon) FIXED IN 1.0.2
Credits:
MrFlame from Long-term Food - For inspiring me and also for using the pemmican file structure he had to kickstart this project. Consider checking his mod as well.
Recommended Mods:
Metal Cooking Pots - Makes cooking raw soymilk at a faster rate (24L at a time) instead of only 6L at a time in a regular cooking pot.
Compatibility:
Hydrate or Dierate - gives appropriate amount of hydration for soymilk

1.2.1 Balance Pass: -Fixed raw soymilk giving more hydration than soymilk (an oversight during my testing of 1.2.0) -Changed the ratio of tofu in a barrel from 2 tofu per 10L to 5 tofu per 10L (ratio should be more in line compared to using the raw soybeans in a meal or pie, so that making tofu isn't a net negative, raw soybeans does have very good shelf life compared to tofu however) -Tweaked tofu shelf life from 5 days to 7 days (can last even longer in a cellar) -Tweaked cooked tofu shelf life from 5 days to 3 days (its cooked, better eat it fast, or put in a meal) -Added nutrition to soybean mash (its not very tasty, and provides no nutrition, but you can eat it if you like) | |||||||

Could other bean types be made into Tofu?
Now that fat was changed in 1.22. the recipe for pemmican no longer works. :(
Now that I'm getting back in the game for 1.22, I'll be looking into updating the mod soon
Sorry for the delay, this has been fixed now in the update released today
I just wanted to point that the soybean pie also weild weird name (not game breaking, just wanted to report it)
In any case, I love your mod, simple but really cool for someone like me who don't play with ACA/EF !
This has been fixed now in the 1.1.0 update
UnidentifiedErr Yes and no. It won't cause crashes or incompatibilities, but you will have two different versions of pemmicans. Long-term food has a lot more content than just pemmican especially with recent updates, whilst this mod is purely just the pemmican (and tofu) on its own. It's your choice which one you want to run, but running both you will have duplicate pemmican (two different recipes, two different "items")
Quick question, does this work with long-term food mod??
Hell yeah, love pemmican
It's a bit funny that your vegan cheese yields dairy nutrition points and not proteins, as it's not dairy at all. Other than that small nitpick, great mod.
The Stacking Update (1.0.3):
You can stack raw and dried pemmican like you would ingots (see image above)
You can craft raw pemmican with redmeat as well (highly requested by one of my friends)
Changed the Drying transition to Curing because the vanilla behavior would cause raw pemmican on shelves to take 4 times as long to dry than normal.
i see, thanks for letting me know :)
Fefa Expanded Foods hasn't been updated to 1.21, and this mod relies on mechanics introduced in 1.21. Do not use both of them together.
so expanded foods and this one is basically the same in some sorth of way? i mean, if i decide to have both, will they have any conflict or weird things happens when trying to craft pemmican or see it in the handbook?
abculatter_2 Hotfix for the crash is out now, update to the latest version (1.0.2), also fixed the missing meal texture for boiled/cooked soybeans
Thanks for making this! I'm sure MrFlame's mod is great but it's the scope is bigger than what I'd like in my game. Love the addition of tofu!
abculatter_2 Working on a fix for that crash. As for the config, it would require coding and I would prefer to keep this mod content only. You are free to ignore the cottage cheese recipe, just don't put salt in your curdled soymilk and seal the barrel.
Got a crash from trying to view Condensed Soymilk in the handbook;
EDIT: Also, could you add a config option for the cottage cheese recipe? I personally find it kinda weird to be able to make regular cheese using soybeans, even if it is a decent analog for irl fermented tofu.
Wow, I knew I've seen it somewhere already...
I've credited you in the mod description. I did use the pemmican file structure to start off, but I changed everything else from the model of the packaged pemmican which I modeled myself in VSMC, even the base model of the pemmican (which is just a brick lmao) and the base game texture is already in the vanilla files. I haven't implemented the salted pemmican, thinking of removing it tbh. Don't take this the wrong way, I love your mod, but I really only wanted the pemmican. So I made this one and added Tofu while I was at it.
Nico_Nico_Nyx Thank you for your understanding😉
MrFlame You're right, I forgot to credit you, my apologies. I'll fix this right away.
Girl, really?
You could have at least warned me that you were going to use my idea, or added a description of the "mods that inspired you". We recently crossed paths in the comments, and you knew perfectly well about my Long-term food mod (where you left a comment and which you knew perfectly well about.), but now it looks like you “stole” the idea and passed it off as your own.
Pemmican recipe, drying, packaging, soy milk
you even copied the files and their structure.
Screenshot
It's just the same files inside.(even in the shapes, there is pemmican-salted file from my mod, while in your mod there is no salty pemmican😂)
How do you explain all of that?
