"Before the calamity. Before the rot set in. Before the Blackguards and the Forlorn Hope marched.
There was an age of wealth and power — master craftsmen forged blades fit for kings, knights grew fat on coin and blood, women wove their own webs of influence, and lords ruled with iron hands.
Wars raged in the name of the king, calling the boldest and the strongest to seize glory — or die chasing it.
That meant every blacksmith, craftsman, and worker strove to give their best. The most skilled members of the guilds approached the status of scholars and devoted their entire lives to perfecting the crafts they were so deeply committed to.
In these times, armors of unquestionable quality appeared, forged with techniques that only the greatest of masters could replicate.
All of this, of course, is now lost to time.
What remains are a few forgotten scrolls, passed down through generations scarred by hardship and suffering, now left to rot on dust-choked shelves and in the deepest shadows of abandoned strongholds.
Only a handful of these schematics survived the devastating scourge of rot, scattered across the broken world — waiting to be unearthed, claimed, and brought back to glory!
The forge of excellence and perfection awaits yo
u — step forward, and let your hands reignite the flame that shapes destiny."

This series of mods aims to introduce historically inspired armors into the game.
This one is dedicated to the Crusades.
Armors added by this mod are somewhat improved versions of the vanilla items, which serve as the base for crafting these modded armors.
Templars and Crusaders needed to survive long and treatcherous journey and not die of overheating or starvation. It didnt matter that much about speed, but durability and stamina was everything. This is reflected in the armor stats.
You will, as always need a specific schematic, which can be found in newly generated ruins or may appear at the Treasure Trader (Useful traders compatible) once he restocks after you install this mod.
Due to the rarity of these schematics, their price won’t exactly be a bargain.
Anyway, this one is a bigger one so i expect some errors to pop up somewhere — let me know if you find some.
I’m aware that the recipes are VERY expensive, and that’s intentional — these armors represent very late-game technology. On the bright side, once crafted, the armor is easy to maintain.
All feedback is welcome too, and the availability of this armor in survival mode can be rebalanced in the future if there’s enough pushback.

Hope you enjoy!

From the Memoirs of Grandmagister Cardinalis Thomas IX. The Pure
[Scene: The forge. Smoke and fire swirl like the breath of some great metal dragon.
At the center of the workshop stands a towering, fully-plated armor, adorned
with a crimson cross on the chest. Heavy. Majestic. Intimidating. Thomas stares at it in stunned silence
before slowly turning to his master.]
Thomas (slowly, baffled):
Master…
Is that… a Templar armor?
Master Eldred (proudly, with reverence):
Indeed, Thomas!
The Templar reborn!
Is she not glorious? Is she not the embodiment of divine will cast in steel?
Thomas (confused):
But… master…
Templars haven’t existed for— I mean… it’s been nearly three centuries since the last Crusade!
They never even had plate armor like this.
Mostly mail, some lamellar, gambesons…
Master Eldred (his face slowly twisting into a volcanic storm):
Exactly, Thomas.
And THAT is why they are GONE!
Thomas (hesitantly):
Because… they didn’t wear plate?
Master Eldred (exploding with furious conviction, waving his arms like a prophet on fire):
YES!
Do you think it was politics?
The heresy trials?
The Papal betrayal?
NO!
They simply didn’t have enough PLATE!
Steel and chain are salvation, boy!
Lamellar? Wooden shingles for the campfire!
Gambeson? Cloth for peasants and poultry!
Thomas (raising an eyebrow):
Master… I think history might disagree—
Master Eldred (interrupting, fully possessed):
History is written by the survivors, Thomas!
And the survivors wore PLATE!
[He storms over to the plated greaves, caressing them almost lovingly.]
Master Eldred (now nearly hysterical with passion):
Imagine it, Thomas!
If they had this during the Siege of Acre — Saracen arrows would’ve sung harmlessly off these perfect curves!
Mamluk blades would’ve screeched in despair as they slid from these divine angles!
The Holy Land would STILL be in Christian hands!
The very course of history — rewritten by metallurgy!
Thomas (carefully, half-intrigued, half-amused):
So you believe that the entire fall of the Templar Order…
was just… a lack of sufficient metallurgy?
Master Eldred (wildly brandishing a hammer):
OF COURSE!
Steel, Thomas! The Great Equalizer!
You see weakness.
I see the antidote!
No gambeson could repel a war arrow.
But THIS? This turns arrows into raindrops!
Sword blows into gentle taps!
Axes into polite knocks on the door of God!
THIS is how the Templars should have marched!
No fragile oaths of poverty — only fortresses of iron on horseback!
Thomas (after a pause, chuckling):
Master… you’re inventing alternate medieval history.
Master Eldred (laughs like a mad prophet):
History is for scribes, Thomas.
We are blacksmiths.
We write in iron and fire!
Thomas (after a moment of thought, gently):
But master…
Won’t some people want, you know… the historically accurate versions?
The chainmail?
Maybe some scale armor?
Something lighter for the reenactors?
[Master Eldred stares at him. A long, tense silence. The forge seems to hold its breath.]
Master Eldred (slowly, theatrically solemn):
Very well, Thomas.
We shall forge their precious accuracy.
Their mail.
Their ... scales.
But only so that when they see this,
—they understand what could have been.
The glorious, impossible perfection they never reached.
The Templar Ascended.
Thomas (grinning):
Deal, master.
Though… I think I’ll pass on wearing the full plate at the next fair.
I rather enjoy being able to sit down.
Master Eldred (laughs like a thunder god):
Sitting is for the unarmored, Thomas!
[They both burst into laughter. A hammer rings out on an anvil. In the background, the bellows roar. Another masterpiece is complete.]

Any plan's for making it compatible with the current version?🧐
MyuriC not intended, might be conflict with some of the mods
Is it intended to not being able to quick equip the Armor on the Hotbar? Plain Plate Armor works. Doesn't work for Templar though. Haven't tested the other's (because it's a MP server with 130 mod's) so Idk if there's a conflict if it's supposed to work or just never existed at all.
AladarCZ Thanks for the answer, although I ended up going in so many caves searching for the schematics I just ended up buying them from a trader, 180 something gears btw.
Noon_og There arent any specific ruins. It should be discoverable on its own. It takes a while tho. Sometimes its faster to Buy it from Treasure Trader :-)
Hi, sorry to bother, but does anyone know what specific ruins I need to look out for to get the armor schematics? Maybe I'm just getting unlucky, but I cannot find any.
When I am equipping your armor, it disappears. But I still equip it? What's going on here?
This mod may have either a bug or a mod confict as I and another person in these comments have the same issue of have uncraftable colored chest pieces, I can still craft colored helmets and legs but no chest
edit: just rebooted vintage story and the recipe is back, weird
Sicroto I believe that is an xSkills issue. Sadly, incompatible right now in this way
Reaction Cannot reproduce. Make sure you have the newest versions of my mods, Combat Overhaul and also OverhaulLib and also make sure that you dont have installed the FA:Eldred Combat overhaul compatibility patch. That one is long time obsolete. All my mods are natively compatible with Combat Overhaul without the need of extra patches
We didn't use xSkills or any skill-based mod.
For some reason I'm getting 2 sets of stats for this and few other of your mods when it comes to combat overhaul, however, the viking one works perfectly fine so I don't think it's my specific mods but maybe something wrong with the patch that got copied over to the other mods?
Anyone know a fix? In the patch it's set to replace the original stats and yet, uh, we got both.
Thats normal?
Cus it has 2 sets on in.
As it stay: 1. "Layers: Skin, middle, outer" Then "Body parts: Torso, arms, hands." Giving the stats of protection for those.
Then there is 2: "Layers: Outer" parts.
(Overall -19% walk speed)
From what i understood.
Bear skin on plate does counts too... I think.
My friend tried to repair his armor and got an integer overflow and now has an invisible, unbreakable chestpiece.
Just thought you should know this. Love the mod btw.
Does it work in 1.21.6? Or not yet, and the update is planned?
Hey, just noticed that there's not a single color variant for Iron Chestplate, there's only bear versions but no colored ones, which is weird since there are colored versions for Iron plate leggins. And it's not just a handbook bug, I checked on creative and colored variants for chestplate just don't exist
Glaron check your mod version, it was a bug in some of the earlier versions that should be fixed now.. if you have up to date version, please let me know if it happens only in certain recipes or everywhere, i couldnt reproduce with the latest version tho
I don't know if this was intentional but recently I noticed the schematics getting consumed in the recepies I hope not since they are very hard to come by otherwise
ah i see:c can u at least make a submod for them to look the same? I will not lie i love the design but the colours are making me sad AladarCZ
AlbaRegem oh this. Well, its two different color types, styles, bases. One is dyed cloth, other is painted metal, it will look a little different just based on physics. I could make the difference less obvious, but i feel like there should still be some
No no I mean, like brother, the red isn't redding or something, on more serious note, its sad that when you take legpiece it's not matching the chestplate
AladarCZ
AlbaRegem With Vanilla armors? We just did! As of right now every one of my armors should fit with corresponding vanilla variants and with each other, except Gothic Steel plate. HB866 was very generous to work on the texture rework
I am begging you, collor match them
Snowfall94 Here's a bit of a handy tip when it comes to determining if mods work on revision versions (this goes for anybody reading this, too):
Read the patch notes for the revision. Does it alter anything critical to the mod's functionality? If not, it probably works fine. If it does, ask the mod developer or test yourself in a safe environment.
Okay, I will wait to use it for tomorrow
Thank you for the reply
Snowfall94 They should work OK, but i plan to release tommorow a patch that will be tested on 1.21.5 and will have a bunch of reworks. So if you can, wait for tommorow
Just recently came back to VS
Do your armor mods all need updates (the ones that aren't currently set to 1.21.5) or should they work fine?
Such as this one, cause I'd love to have a Templar set
It says potentially outdated so I'm gonna try it out later unless you say like nah don't do that just wait
WolfCrusader absolute immersion. 10/10
I just wanted share something funny that happened when I first installed this mod their was a church that spawned in my world from better ruins and that was where I found the schematic from this mod it was really funny because it made too much sense.
Wostolfo Treasure hunter will ocasionally buy back scheamtics, so good thing for duplicates :-)
you can also always check the changelog in the files section for news
What's in the latest update for all the FA mods?
Understood, love your work.
RyothStormsEdge Thank you for notice, this is intentional, some armors have an iron colored variants a "little under developed" the linen texture is less detailed, more rough (not the case for Landsknecht, or Dynasties armor) for plate armor specificaly, the colored variants are missing entirely, the intention is to reward progression a little bit more.
Hey, in case you weren't aware the Iron Chestplate isn't dyeable, seems to be the only one that isn't, just wondering if it was a bug or if it was on purpose.
Here's a fun Bug. AladarCZ
When also using Xskills and having Lgendary quality Steel Chest Piece. creating the Templar chest is fine, and keeps the quality. but when I put it in a barrel to dye it black. the Xskills quality drops to 0 because it looks like you're replacing the item with a new dyed item. It even recovered lost durability to be brand new.
Maybe change the chest piece to also include colored cloth some how so it's not losing the Xskills quality modification?
I can confirm that that error is now gone from my error log. Seems it was fixed.
Cut the log lines from the previous number to some 2000 lines when running the game for 5 minutes.
Now I just have to go mention the similar issue to the makers of the other 2 mods.
JSR_Guy Yep... still mine problem, im just an blind Ass looking into the wrong log file... Anyway.. ill release 1.2.5. and that might finally bump down the error lines quite a bit.
EDIT: Hopefully finally managed to fix it. Try 1.2.5. Surely thats gonna be it.
I suppose I should clarify what I meant by 19500 lines of 'this' error in my previous comment.
It wasn't just the templar_greathelm_winged, it's probably most if not all pieces of armor.
An example from my most recent log:
[Error] Missing mapping for texture code #plain during shape tesselation of item fatemplar:fa-templar-body-balance-iron-red using shape fatemplar:entity/armor/templar/templar_balance_body
This error has 288 lines/copies, repeating. Just this one error. There are many more cases for other pieces of armor.
And it's like this for most of the rest of the 'client-main.log'.
My most recent log has 10368 matches for:
'Missing mapping for texture code #plain during shape tesselation of item fatemplar'
Which are all such cases for the #plain texture code, and there's 13068 matches for just:
'during shape tesselation of item fatemplar'
Which includes some other texture codes.
Counting all cases for missing texture codes comes to 13452 matches, that's when I have Notepad++ count all matches for:
'[Error] Missing mapping for texture code'
Which is why I assumed that this might not be caused by your mod. I use 168 mods, which clearly isn't as stable as I'd like it to be.
I went and checked what other texture code might be involved, which is #schematic-templar for the missing 2700 matches. The other, 384 matches for the rest of the missing mappings seems to be for other mods, one of which is 'igniscustomstuff'/'Ignis Arsenal' at 336 matches, and the rest is 'CAN jewelry' at 48 matches. Again, I don't know what causes this.
I could go ahead and list all armors that have this error in my log if you want, though I'm not sure if it'd help much.
Note: the log file comes out to 15013 lines total, not all of it errors of course, with me having opening my single player world for 5 minutes. With all of these errors happening in the span of 25 seconds.
JSR_Guy Check out 1.2.4. Should be fixed
JSR_Guy no you are right, something seems to be off. I will look into it.
jonatoba it will come eventually, i have limited time so new mods take a lot of time to release
when are you going to make churburg or late 14th century armor, i mean that armor with the hound skull and bascinets
I seem to be getting tons of the following error:
[Error] Missing mapping for texture code #plain during shape tesselation of item fatemplar:fa-templar-head-greathelmwinged-iron-plain using shape fatemplar:entity/armor/templar/templar_greathelm_winged
I don't know what this is about, the I got like 19500 lines of this specific error (just counting every line with "Missing mapping for texture code").
Did you forget to add a texture path or something?
Then again, it might be something else...
Edit: nvm, it's probably something else causing that.
Vogi Hmm thats weird, i tried to replicate with a newest version and it works fine, i see all the recipes. What version fo mod and game are you playing on? And do you maybe have Combat Overhaul installed?
Hello, there is no recipe for Templar Iron Plate Leggings - all colors sadly
Enisha Thank you! Landsknecht armor is live right now! Feel free to check it out.
FandaKilpis Diky! Poradne zbroje mi ve VS docela chybely tak mam radost ze muzu zaplnit diru na trhu :D
Saline_Valeni Thanks! Oh dont worry, the whole Stechzeug is on its way, im excited for it myself!
Awesome mod! My selfish self really wants a frogmouth helmet for this game.
To je uzasny !, kamo pokracuj nemuzu se dockat na dalsi styly, tohle jsem presne potreboval :D
Truly one of the best armor mods of all time, I can't wait for the landsknecht style brigandine for even more drip.
KopyKat64 True for uncolored verisons! Fixed in v1.2.2. Good catch.
Every plate legging is unable to be repaired as there is no recipe for it
Have you thought on doing conquistador like armors?
Soma1700 Im open to it, first i want to pay attention to the European Armors but otherwise, sky is a limit!
Would you consider making samurai style armors or maybe even mongolian styles?
These models are increadible and I'd love to see these cultures added.
Anotzibartschad
Sure thing, Thanks for the praise!
So in general, AI makes me assets that i put together in Gimp.
Greenwich helmet, Templar Helmet and the backgroud
are all midjourney. I just cut them out of the generated picture, rescaled to 128x128, patched them up myself so they look less janky and then scaled them up to 480x480 so i get more pixely pixel art that fits the "modicon" size requirements.
The Gothic helmet
i actually drew the base myself! I just used ChatGPT for shadows and simulate sort of lighting effect (my base version looks like 4year old made it) and it did a darn good job, made it look much more 3D and "realistic".
The text
is made in an online tool that has a bunch of pixel fonts so i choose the one that i liked.
And the banners
are free assets that i found on the internet.
You make the best armor, and just general equipment mods in the game's history. I wanted to know what AI techniques do you use to make the thumbnails, or at least what model do you use.
Beautiful armors. For me It would be cool to see some Byzantine style armors. In game lamellar armor seems dull.
Your armor mods look incredible
This mod is insane...
Cant wait for Combat Overhaul patches
LunaGore Fixed, thanks.
Typo in the mod title "fogoten"
Dskater84 Im no expert on history. I just try to get loosely inspired by it but also not go too crazy with fantasy touches. Trying just to add a little bit of coolness. To my knowledge, Crusaders and templars never really wore full plate armor, so this one is total fabrication, skirt idea is actually from Dragon Age: Origins templar armor. And the seal on the pauldron is 100% Warhamer TBH.
So some artistic fantasy touches here and there.
DeanBro Thank you! Ill add it right now. I will look on to the schematic placement in later updates, thanks for suggestion.
AladarCZ Hi, I have made a translation for your mod.
I would also like to ask if you could make it possible to place schematic on the bookshelf?
Do you do any sort of historical research with actual armour or do you inspire yourself from generic armour in video games? I'm asking because i have never seen a skirt like that, in images 3 and 4 and i'm curios where you got it from.
Oh my god, these are absolutely stunning! Im also waiting for CO patch, but damn. I think these are the best modded armor sets here
WaterDayMyDudes Not yet, however, compat. mod is comming soon!
Yes.
Is this one already compatible with Combat Overhaul?
Just wondering :3
