"Before the calamity. Before the rot set in. Before the Blackguards and the Forlorn Hope marched.
There was an age of wealth and power — master craftsmen forged blades fit for kings, knights grew fat on coin and blood, women wove their own webs of influence, and lords ruled with iron hands.
Wars raged in the name of the king, calling the boldest and the strongest to seize glory — or die chasing it.

That meant every blacksmith, craftsman, and worker strove to give their best. The most skilled members of the guilds approached the status of scholars and devoted their entire lives to perfecting the crafts they were so deeply committed to.

In these times, armors of unquestionable quality appeared, forged with techniques that only the greatest of masters could replicate.

All of this, of course, is now lost to time.
What remains are a few forgotten scrolls, passed down through generations scarred by hardship and suffering, now left to rot on dust-choked shelves and in the deepest shadows of abandoned strongholds.
Only a handful of these schematics survived the devastating scourge of rot, scattered across the broken world — waiting to be unearthed, claimed, and brought back to glory!

The forge of excellence and perfection awaits you — step forward, and let your hands reignite the flame that shapes destiny."

This series of mods aims to introduce historically inspired armors into the game.
This one is dedicated to the Gothic style armor set.

Armors added by this mod are improved versions of the vanilla items, which serve as the base for crafting these modded armors.
Gothic armor is a little lighter and more breathable than classic plate version, you walk with it faster and your stats drain slower while the defensive stats stay unchanged.

You will need a specific schematic, which can be found in newly generated ruins or may appear at the Treasure Trader once he restocks after you install this mod.
Due to the rarity of these schematics, their price won’t exactly be a bargain.

Anyway, this is a simple content mod at heart.
I’m aware that the recipes are VERY expensive, and that’s intentional — these armors represent very late-game technology. On the bright side, once crafted, the armor is easy to maintain.

Of course, all feedback is welcome, and the availability of this armor in survival mode can be rebalanced in the future if there’s enough pushback.

latest version v1.1.2

From the Memoirs of Grandmagister Cardinalis Thomas IX. The Pure

[Scene: The forge. It is evening. The flames flicker like restless spirits. On the central stand stands a new marvel — a German Gothic
plate armor: intricately shaped plates, sharp ridges, fan-shaped knees, flawlessly articulated joints.
Thomas cautiously circles the creation. Master Eldred remains silent, gazing at his work like a newborn child of the gods.]

Thomas (whispering, mesmerized):
Master… this… this is something else entirely.

Master Eldred (calmly, solemnly):
Yes, Thomas. You are gazing upon the embodiment of discipline.
The Gothic Plate.
Where other armors scream strength, this one… whispers inevitability.

Thomas:
It almost looks… delicate.

Master Eldred (with a killer’s stare):
Delicate!?
Do you call a spider’s web delicate, boy?
It catches the fly just the same.

Thomas (quickly):
No, no, I mean— it’s just… the gaps between the plates. It looks… airy.

Master Eldred (proudly):
Airy?
Yes. It breathes, Thomas.
This is not some suffocating iron coffin like the primitive shells of yore.
The Gothic Plate is alive!
Each articulated plate moves with the knight.
Every fan, every ridge, every blooming curve serves both grace and defense.
It breathes with him.
The weight? Balanced.
The movement? Fluid.
The protection? Absolute.

Thomas (in awe):
So... it’s strong and light?

Master Eldred (firmly):
As the falcon is light, yet tears the hare to ribbons.
Only fools believe strength lies in weight. Strength lies in design!
Every joint here is a symphony of angles.
The fluting—more than ornament—channels impact, redirects force, resists the blade’s bite.
An arrow strikes? It skitters away like a rat from light!

Thomas (curiously approaching the helmet):
And… the helmet, master…
pause
If I may…
Does it have to look… so… um… like a snout?

[Master Eldred freezes. A dangerous silence falls. The fire crackles. And then…]

Master Eldred (very calmly, eyes of a mad prophet):
Like a snout?

Thomas (carefully):
I mean— it’s a bit… piggish? The pointed visor… it almost looks like it’s… sniffling for truffles.

[Master Eldred closes his eyes, exhales slowly. Then explodes.]

Master Eldred (from a hurricane of silence to a thunderstorm of rage):
SNIFFLING FOR TRUFFLES!?!?
YOU IMBECILE!
That "snout" you mock is a masterpiece of aerodynamics!
That beak deflects sword thrusts, arrows, even lance tips!
The angles are calculated to perfection—sliding death itself aside!
Would you prefer a flat visor, catching the enemy's blade like a dinner plate!?
NO!
The “snout” is survival incarnate!
It is the nose of victory!

Thomas (barely containing his laughter, but trying to be serious):
The… nose of victory.

Master Eldred (wildly waving his hammer):
YES! Write that down, Thomas!
One day, when you forge your own Gothic suit, remember:
"In war, breathe easy. Let death slide past your snout."
A knight who breathes, fights. A knight who suffocates, dies.

Thomas (grinning, eyes locked on the armor):
It’s… oddly beautiful, master.
Like… an armored flower.

Master Eldred (with tears of pride):
Yes, Thomas.
A deadly bloom.
The enemy shall behold its beauty only once — just before their doom.

[The sound of distant war drums. The armor gleams in the forge’s fiery light.
Thomas and Eldred stand in reverent silence, both knowing that tonight, they have forged another step toward immortality.]

Myrakridia Yea thats probably oversight on my side. Will look in to proper balancing on the next version. Thanks for the feedback.

EDIT: updated in 1.1.1 version

💬 Myrakridia, 6 days ago

The durability of the armour is the same between all metal types. It it possible to have the armour durability separated and rebalanced to be more in line with the metal they are made from?
(The iron plate armour upgrades from 2200 durability to the gothic iron armour which has a durability of 5200, upgraded using lead and zinc)

I love the look of your armour. You've done an amazing job on that.

Adore the armour, confused by the numbers and the resources that go into the upgrade.

💬 AladarCZ , Jul 3rd at 4:58 AM

Anotzibartschad Yes, im planning to release a CO compatibility patch pretty soon where the armor will occupy all the slots. Mod with a Crusade style armors is almost finished, as well as the patch. Feel free to translate as you please i can load it into next versions. You can wait for Crusade mod upload because with it i will roll out 1.2.0 for Greenwich and 1.1.0 for Gothic adding a few helmet styles.

💬 Anotzibartschad, Jul 2nd at 8:40 PM

AladarCZ I can translate to spanish, portuguese, french german and polish, if you'd like. By the way, are you planning on fixing the mod for combat overhaul in the planned update? I was thinking it'd be neat if the armor occupied all slots and was buffed accordingly

💬 AladarCZ , Jun 29th at 5:48 AM

Není zač! Also DeanBro i have a little update planned soon so ill incorporate your translation again. Thank you very much for it.

💬 Setnja, Jun 28th at 9:08 PM

AladarCZ Thanks for fast response. It was as you suspected, i mistook the silver nails for meteoritic iron nails ... 🙂 So everything is ok, díky. And i agree with the recipe cost-maintenance ballance of the armor, i was a just a bit surprise to see the prize. Can't wait for more armor sets and weapons!

💬 AladarCZ , Jun 28th at 8:47 PM

Setnja Thanks for the feedback! There is always a way to get around paying the gears. Adventure! (granted, a LOT of it).  Also, the intent is, once you get your precious armor, it should stay practically forever, the maintenance is cheaper then vanilla armor, and just keep the scroll somewhere safe so you can replicate the armor any time if needed.

Regarding the recipe, im not sure what could be wrong. Is the recipe visible in the Handbook? Ive just tested it with the version of the mod that is uploaded here and couldnt replicate. Works fine for me.

Make sure that you have the right type of components, they are usually from multiple metals. Meteoric Iron Nails and strips, Silver plates. For Steel version you need sturdy leather instead of plain etc. Let me know if you find out what was wrong.

💬 Setnja, Jun 28th at 7:22 PM

Hello, great idea, great mod. Kinda hard to get together 175 wheels for the recipe. I am glad you need only one for all hree pieces. This aside, i found a bug i believe. The steel plated gothic helmet (green) can't be crafted. I have all required resources, steel plated vanilla helmet is fully repared, everything is on corect slots in crafting grid and the gothic helmet is not shown below nor crafted. I would welcome help or info about this. Good luck, can't wait for more of you mods, ahoj.

So you're telling me I can finally live out my elden ring dreams in vintage story?

I"m sold

💬 AladarCZ , Jun 21st at 5:35 AM

Maeyanie I was thinking just the same thing, ill probably do something like that.

💬 Maeyanie, Jun 21st at 12:38 AM

@AladarCZ: Perhaps the best compromise would be, while you're continuing the series, to model the new ones a little bigger such that the lower layers won't stick out. Then, later down the line when you're finished most of it, you can come back and redo the early ones for CO. The layer system is a realistic thing, so it would be nice to support it if possible.

💬 AladarCZ , Jun 20th at 5:36 PM

Ok, so i looked a little bit into what would it take to make CombatOverhaul patch.

Apparently my armor shapes are too small to fit into the layer system and skin and middle layer stick out of it. Reshaping can ve pretty time consuming since my models are already made from a lot more shapes than basic armor. Maybe simplier way would be to make my armors take up all the layers and set the stats accordingly to make up for that. BUT, that would also mean that in context of the CO mod, they would be DIRT cheap which means to patch the recipes too, to balance out the crafting prices.

So i guess i know how to do it and have some plan. But my priority is first to make progress with the series. So probably when the series progresses noticably or even after its finished, i might take a look on patches, ill keep it in mind, maybe i try something sooner. Until then anyone is welcome to do it instead of me!

💬 Nythic, Jun 20th at 1:45 AM

Please make a CO compatible patch for your mods, I would LOVE it

💬 FrancisOfFilth, Jun 20th at 12:10 AM

Would kill for a Combat Overhaul patch

💬 FoeHammer418, Jun 19th at 9:36 PM

Absolutely amazing set of mods, I am very excited to see more from you! If I did not run with Combat Overhaul I would already have downloaded these.

Also an idea, would you consider adding futher customization in the form of "painting" the armors? As in using dye to paint the armor white or blue instead of the normal metal color like was.

💬 DeanBro, Jun 19th at 5:26 PM

AladarCZ Hi, I made a translation for your mod.

💬 AladarCZ , Jun 19th at 6:39 AM

Ismarus Oh its comming eventually dont worry! Im planning to make it a part of the Jousting style (my inspiration there is going to come from Stechzeug, in-game cumbersome and heavy to wear, but greatly protective)

💬 Ismarus, Jun 19th at 1:59 AM

Frogmouth helmet when???? (Very cool and awesome mod)

💬 JonR, Jun 18th at 8:25 PM

These are seriously damn incredible models! Keep it up! I'm absolutely going to be likely downloading each and every style hahah.

💬 Octaninc, Jun 18th at 7:32 PM

looks goofy but rly cool. also nice looking model

💬 Sky_StarBlade, Jun 18th at 6:35 PM

Gothic armor is my favorite! So cool to see it in this game! Thanks man!
