Latest release (for Vintage Story 1.21.6 and 1.22.0-pre.1 - 1.22.0-rc.2):

This mod adds a simple stone mortar for grinding stuff by hand. It's extremely simplistic and uses vanilla mechanics. No custom models, no DLLs, just a few little tweaks.

---

INSTRUCTIONS
Use your crafting inventory. Place a granite or andesite stone in the top third, what you want to crush in the middle, and the mortar on the botom. The stone you use for crushing will be lost, and it requires twice the number of ingredients to get the same output as a quern.

FEATURES
- Adds a craftable mortar object called a "mortar bowl" as well as grinding recipes

Ah. This mod isn't compatible yet with 1.22. I'm only on the stable version at the moment. That may explain it.

Firimar, Mar 19th at 2:32 PM

I used 1.22.0-rc.2, but 1.22.0-rc 3 today. I don't see the recipe, only the sea shells show up for grinding with the quern. But it reappears after disabling the mod.

TaimatCompany , Mar 18th at 6:25 PM

hm. were you able to at least see the recipe? What version of VS are you using?

Firimar, Mar 18th at 2:09 PM

I tried your newest version. Same issue as before. Using your mortar works fine but I still can't use the quern for the stones. Deactivating the mod makes it possible again. I also don't have any other mods that changes the stones or quern.

Firimar Papa_Santa My foot tastes terrible. I think I did in fact find a syntax error that was overwriting some stone properties. I can see the lime recipe now so it should be fixed now. Apologies.

TaimatCompany , Mar 17th at 11:35 AM

I'll take another look. maybe I'm overwriting limestones qualities somehow. I don't think it's the quern itself. I'll try and figure it out when I get home today.

Firimar, Mar 17th at 11:23 AM

It works, but it deactivates the ability to grind limestone with a quern (haven't tested other stones/items yet). No recipe in the handbook anymore aswell. Once I deactivated the mod I was able to grind with a quern again.

TaimatCompany , Mar 17th at 12:29 AM

Echoweaver that's a great idea. I'll put it on my list! Not sure where i can get seashells though... is that a thing?

Mercity runs ok for 1.21.6

Papa_Santa I went and re-checked all of my code and verified that this mod does not touch the quern, so it must be a different mod causing that issue. All mine does is add a mortar and pestle. It's a very tiny mod.

Mercity, Feb 12th at 4:46 AM

Anyone know if this mod still works properly?

Papa_Santa, Oct 25th 2025 at 9:07 PM

Sadly this mod caused it to be not possible to grind limestone in a quern for me. It deleted the recipe for that entirely.

Echoweaver, Oct 19th 2025 at 2:14 AM

I love this mod. It's nice and simple. Would you consider adding the ability to crush seashells into lime?

StrawberrySoda, Aug 26th 2025 at 8:59 PM

Thanks I was really frustrated by the lack of a mortar and pestle!
