About
This mod introduces a diverse collection of powerful mosasaurs to Vintage Story! From the famous Mosasaurs to its lesser-known relatives, these aquatic apex predators bring new challenges to those who seeks to sail the once peaceful ocean.

Domestication
Feeding adults, they are carnivores, you simply drop the meat on the floor, they require 30 portions max to breed, less depending on species.
They are peaceful after 10 geneations
I wouldn't recommend domesticating them
Lures
You can craft a big and a small lure, range 100 and 30 respectively

I am unsure if these are spawning anymore. I added these to a new server I made and they were working fine for a while, but the last few days and upon using /entity countg i see no mosasaurs.
It would be really nice if we could disable their targetting boats, or let them differentiate whether a boat has a person actively in it or not. They get stuck attacking empty boats forever and totally ignore everything else once they're honed in on it.
anyone know if this somewhat works for 1.21.1
Mod is not programmed well in terms of hit box! Entities do not take dmg hitting their head for example!
Can we get a config to adjust their damage? Tier 5 seems very high, at least for my playthrough. Makes any water source near instant death. If that were a rare threat in the ocean, that would make sense, but new worlds quickly get overran by these guys no matter how low the spawn rate is.
Hey mate, I really like the idea of using this for my server, the idea being that it will stop new players from making a raft and going out to generate a load of chunks. That said, I don't want them to be able to attack sailboats as that is too expensive to lose, can you add a config option to disable them attacking sailboats please? (I defintely want them to still attack rafts/canoes etc XD )
Also, I use river gen, I want the rivers and lakes to be safe, so can we get a config to spawn only in seawater and/or not allow them to enter water with a certain depth? Would be cool also if they generally swim only at around that set depth, and come up only to attack players.
Server is 1.21 btw.
Thanks
They do look great, but they spawn in 1 tile deep pond, breaking the fun.
Also +1 to restrict to ocean only.
My friends added this mod and told me there were mosasaurs I did not believe them until one jumped out of the water nearly one bit me in full plate and all they heard was "WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT THING!?!?!?!". Honestly its hilarious
Thap
I can look into making a toggle for it
ProfCupcake
I'll also look into a toggle for this
Any chance of an option to adjust or disable the aggression towards boats? Kind of stings to have hours of effort just deleted because a mosa happened to wander (or spawn) vaguely nearby.
Would it be possible to restrict spawning just to oceans?
pimblokto
You might have bring them on land, I haven't tested it but it should work. I didn't think anyone would try to domesticate yet since I haven't added the ability to ride them yet.
They won't eat food I drop, any reason why?
BulletSponge
latest version should remove the duplication problem
Seems to be a dupilcation bug, placing a raft in water, then picking it up with Shift + Crouch + Rightclick duplicates it. One drops into the water, and the other gets put into your inventory. Did a bit of testing and narrowed it down to this mod.
Edit: Ah I think I see it now. Likely the boathealth.json patch file isn't able to distinguish when its being broken/picked up so will always drop it's self. Althrough it makes sense, I'm not 100% sure its the issue.
GeorgeFloyd
The huge pelt is a vanilla item, so if it invisible that might be other mods or something else.
The huge pelts that are recieved from your dinos (i got it from the triceratops) dont appear when you place them, they are invisible :(
The game doesn't immediately detect when they are out of water, that's hardcoded into the game, so they'll swim until they change action then they won't land swim.
is there a bugfix/way to change the code for them to stop swimming after you on land? Thank you in advance, scared the s**t out of me
GeorgeFloyd
That's rough buddy, but they can land swim under the conditon of already aggroed on you in the water, then you ran on land(they can't reach you if you went one block higher). Hopefully that put some clarity to your death.
my long hardcore run ended because they swim on land?????? extremely frustrating.
Kassc
I haven't touch their spawn setting setting at all recenly, if your using biome, then maybe their recent update could have increase the spawn rate. Otherwise you might it be luck and coincidence.
Not sure if is this mod or some server settings, but they respawn so quickly out of the sudden!
I have a lake near my village and after killing all 7 of them, suddenly all respawn the next day. Usually they will only respawn once a year, unless something else broke. :x
laughinggas
Please add compatibility with Butchering mod. We love hunt on this creatures and cook them! Yammy!
That's so insane how often it happens that I'll go to a comment section to complain about something, and see the mod author patched it within a usually 24 hour period. Awesome work as usual lmao
Kassc
thank you for the report, now they will no longer endlessly attack it in a sense ☺️
They really hate rafts and they can't destroy them, so they will endlessly attack rafts over and over as I hear them roaring in the background.
Kinda funny, makes them quite easy to hunt when they are distracted nibbling on a raft!
Alright then, the land swiming is to prevent them from beaching themselves constantly
@laughinggas
It turned out that the reason for the crash was in the Smithing Plus mod, but big fish swim on the ground after the last update.
B0YAR
can you provide the error logs and mod list for this?
Hi! We love your mod, but after the last upgrade, some big blue fish swim on land as if on the sea.
When we kill this big fish, fish dupe into 2 fish and server crash. We repeat this problem 3 times.
Kassc
I've rolled out another update, see if that fixes it

My server is spamming these logs, I think its caused by the water dino's
Well in anycase I found the issue and it should be addressed now in this latest update
yuttgyh
it'll be more useful to know what the log actually said, because I can not recreate the issue you are refering too
This mod definitly has an issue with aiTaskWander (same issue reported by Scorives) causing issues with dropped items, after removing this mod the stange behavior was fixed!
metasynthie
Mosasaurs don't lay eggs so no nests, you either light up the lake somehow or keep atleast some of their species nearby to hit their group spawn cap of one.
The aggression "not too far onto land" but the ability for them to flop back into water seems to be working now. But now it's so hard to kill them -- gotta poke them in the eye with a decent weapon, I guess?
Do these guys have nests like the other Phanerozoic dinosaurs? Or some way to stop them spawning? Otherwise I might have to make a special lantern-lit lake to lure them into and seal them off. Call it "loch ness"
Scorives
That looks like it's from the Fotsa mod dinornithidae not one of mine

just fyi this is on 1.20.11 test branch which i know is not supported yet.
Might just be strange luck, they're in the smaller lake but i'll give it a while and kill em and see if they'll naturall spawn elsewhere. if all else fails i'll toss a few into the big lake and hopefully they'll breed.
I also see the rework for the flopping. much appreciate on that! I personally don't mind the aggression, its actually really frightening when they're jetting towards you. I have a monkey bridge from primitive surivival over the mosasaur lake currently and they'll jump up and nip at me, its very immersive and scary.
crumps
As long as there's valid water blocks, enough space, correct climate and 100 blocks away from the player they'll spawn. I've also excluded huge pelts from their drop table in the latest update.
is there a preference the game has for the bodies of water they spawn in? or if they're in one they won't spawn nearby? obviously haven't had it added that long but so far the game is preferring they spawn in a smaller body of water on my world and not the large lake nearby to it. Not the biggest deal, I can wait and see if they eventually spawn or just throw some in with creative for the added difficulty but was just curious :D
edit: also, are you able to change the drops of the juveniles vs adults? a juvenile plotosaur dropped a huge pelt which just feels a bit too much for its size.
Unsure what this warning log means. but, my server is spamming this.

Amusing enough, the lake froze over and they are now stuck flopping and sliding over the ice.
It's a fair exchange for being big behemoth and having the potential to one shot you
I'm NGL I love adding them but seeing them wiggle on land like buffoons is so funny
Wist
Them attack rafts intended, it mimicks how sharks will attack surfers boards thinking it's turtle. Globidens is little shorter than the rest, I forgot account for their shorter length, should be adjusted for the next update
These look great and I enjoyed my first encounter. A few things I noticed (with the globidens specifically), both may be design choices but just in case:
They attacked my unmanned raft like it was the player.
Their reach is 1 block in front of their head, so it's easy to think you are further away than you are from being bitten.
Awesome to see the out of water get fixed. Def adding this to my server so oceans are scary!
Vigilance
They should no longer land swim and will flop like a stupid magicarp back to their water
You are absolutely 100% killing it with this series man. I'm really glad for this!!! Started with the T-rex and now you have an amazing series.
After reading the comments, I think I will hold off on installing this for a little. I don't need them chasing me on land when I already have to deal with the local Spinosauridae populations.
That said I look forward to fearing them when I eventually get to water exploration. Or them terrorizing my floating farms
I don't even live near the ocean but installed this to make trips to the beach more exciting! Then I logged in and saw two of these beasts, a big one and a little one, trapped in the river next to my house, which wasn't quite big enough for them to maneuver easily (only six wide). Intended behavior... or...?
ActualLizard
Well you could always make a sky/tree base to stay safe, atleast for now
And my idea to settle on an island for safety just got destroyed. Amazing work as always!
How horrifying. Thank you, at least it is pretty clear to see when they're close enough to shore to tear me apart.
Haha, yes, it's not the intended behavior, as of right, the vanilla code that specify how entity behave on land or in the water is currently broken, instead of flopping they'll just swim on land while chasing you, so until then, treat them like crocs on steroids.
I'm really appreciative of the fact that you're making the waterways a nightmare for me now, but I just learned that when a mosasaurus decides to chase me on to land, they are quite formidable land hunters too. I don't assume this is intended behavior? Lmao
JunidO
The fly ai is not up to snuff, so when they are I will
Will you ever create a mod with flying dinosaurs?
An_Sar
typo should be fixed
models look great, also very nice to have more stuff in the oceans.
ran into this error, also was not able to spawn the creatures by hand even though they do appear in creative inventory, worth noting this was on linux single player and a linux based server.
