Recommended download (for Vintage Story v1.20.10):
NubAutoWalker_1.2.1.zip
1-click install
Adds a simple autowalk hotkey (Default V) that is customizable in control settings. Walking forward or backwards will also turn off the autowalking.
v1.2.1: Updated for the new 1.20.10 version of VS.
v1.2.0 CHANGELOG:
BUG FIXES:
Fixed an issue where hitting WalkForward or WalkBackwards while jumping would sometimes not cancel autowalking.
Fixed an issue where hitting WalkForward or WalkBackwards too quickly could sometimes not cancel autowalking.
MISC:
Added a client side command .nubawlogging [enable|disable|true|false] to enable verbose logging of keydown/keyup events to the client-debug.log file, which was used to track down these bugs.
This is off by default and should really only be used if you suspect issues with your input devices or for debugging mods, as it will flood the debug log with key events fairly quickly in regular gameplay.
VERSION HISTORY:
v1.1.0: *Note, this changed the .zip filename to match the modID. Make sure to delete any older versions when installing the new one if you are installing manually.
FIXES:
Updated walking backwards to now stop autowalk when the key is pressed, rather than released. This was making for some awkward combat when caught off guard, as you would stop moving entirely after pressing backwards until you released it again.
MISC:
Internal project/build fixes.*
v1.0.4:
Fixed a missing flag that was preventing the mod from loading when playing on servers without the mod. The mod is now fully client side.

Nubicans Thanks man! :)
The API does look to be capable of supporting this. I'm working on a proof of concept and should be able to get something working for "autoholding" shortly!
Neat idea, if it's possible. I haven't minded any of the "immersive tedium" activities thus far except for grinding limestone in a quern. That's a lot of just standing there holding RMB. It should be possible to macro it using third-party tools, but an ingame solution would be cool.
eerino I could definitely add it to the todo list if you aren't able to find one! I'm with you there, I always really appreciate games that give options for toggleable keybinding behavior, especially when activities can require a lot of holding keys or mouse buttons down. I'll take a look at the API and see what I can come up with!
I would really love an Auto-x for everything.
Chopping a tree with a flint axe? Holding the mouse for 90 seconds instead of taking a sip of my coffeee!
If this is already a thing, I can not find it!
anubis477 If you run the command /moddb list, do you see NubAutoWalker listed in the output? If you DO see it listed, could you provide the list of mods currently loaded? There may be a compatibility issue with one.
If it doesn't appear to be in the list, there may be issues causing the mod to not load properly. If this is the case, can you check your client debug log for any references to the mod and provide them here?
theres no autowalk key V in control settings to change it
ste636 When I searched for a mod for auto running I came across Dana's and seen it was no longer maintained. The auto run functionality appeared to be rolled up in a large mod pack that required several dependencies attached to it, so I created this as an alternative as I wanted to keep my mod list lean and was not able to find out how to get the mod pack up and running with only the auto run and not requiring my friends to have dependencies on a mod we had no intention of running. If the API hasn't changed much, they most likely function the same. I don't see many other options than to override the OnKey events, so they probably work very close to the same way. V was the hotkey for many of the Minecraft mods by default (at least the one I had used back in the day for auto running was, and seemed fairly intuitive and comfortable) and is close enough to the WASD keys to be useful for users with potential accessibility issues. This is adjustable in the menu if you need/want to change it. I personally use ~ but it is the world edit tool by default, and will need some tweaking of other control options.
If you are using Dana's mod pack, I don't recommend this mod too, especially if Dana's auto run is working for you. If Dana's also overrides the OnKey events I'm not sure these will play nicely together, and could interfere with loading of the rest of the mods from the pack if any errors crop up.
Feel free to drop any issues you have here and I can certainly take a look. This is a pretty barebones mod by design and I don't expect much in the way of features in order to keep it clean, as long as it works and doesn't feel clunky that was all I wanted from it. My hope is that it fills the gap for users who want something lightweight that dont intend to use many mods, or want something explicitly client side for the QoL/accessibility option without much headache or configuration needed.
Is it copy/paste of Dana's? I use his and it works anyway with the same "V" hotkey.
Can't believe how long I've played without considering how much better autowalk would make my experience. Love this.
Perfect and absolutely needed in the base game for long raft trips!
Solid. Works absolutely flawless!~
Edit:: The updates provided were a SMOOTH choice! I didn't know I needed that and I love it even more!
