Blackguard Additons is a collection of new armour, weapons, and décor based on the existing lore of the Blackguard, and expanding it within reason. All items come with lore in their tool-tips.

If you encounter any bugs, or have suggestion for balancing or additions, let me know!

 

Currently the mod adds the following:

 - Blackguard Warden Armour - A steel-tier set of Blackguard armour once worn by the leaders and tacticians of the Dread Company. Crafted by upgrading the existing Blackguard armour.

 - Blackguard Tracker Armour - An iron-tier set of Blackguard armour once worn by trackers and spies of the Dread Company in the Depths. Craftable with iron-tier resources.

 - Blackguard Claymore - An iron-tier greatsword with high damage and long reach.

 - Blackguard Dagger - An iron-tier blade with similar stats to iron knife.

 - Blackguard Shortbow - An iron-tier bow with similar stats to the recurve bow.

 - Blackguard Warhammer - An iron-tier club with high damage and average range.

 - Blackguard Banner - New block bearing the ominous emblem of the Dread Company; comes in two variants.

 - New Model for the Blackguard Shortsword - A new model for the Blackguard Shortsword that more closely fits the asthetic of later Vintage Story versions, while keeping the iconic look.

 

The mod also has compatibility with Gilded Steel, for which I made the models; it adds a Blackguard Longsword.

Known issues:

 - Daggers cannot be used for knife crafting recipes; I am looking for a proper fix to this that will let them alse be used in other mod's recipes.

 

My mods are made with Vanilla balance in mind.

I will not be adding explicit support for mods that change this balance.

hey Irakonul. Big fan of your mod and how it makes the Blackguard more interesting. I have a Blackguard on my server who is just eating the content up.

However, I have a tweaked version of your content mod on my micro-community server that enabled me to make some changes for my community. As I do not have your permssion to upload an edit of your mod, I have not added it to moddb so my players can download it automatically. I am wondering if I could please have your permission to do so. The first words on my mod page would be redirecting people to your original mod, followed by an explanation of the changes I made to your content, and then a recommendation to download the unaltered content from your mod page rather than mine.

A brief note about my changes: removed the bow, made armor/weapons only craftable by those with the merciless trait, made other items only craftable by those with the clothier trait, tweaked a few weapon values to better suit my balancing tastes

Uhhhh, the warden armor repair recipe is kinda wonky. The broken version can be repaired to damage but no further, and the repaired version need the normal blackguard armor instead

Love the gear, I was wondewring if you could possibly add a steel varrint of each piece. So we can keep the style when we move on to steel equipment, possibly a less tarnished cleanr looking version even?

addend=um. I am dumb and did not realize the warden armor was steel at first. I'd love to see a steel version of the tracker armor and steel blackguard weapons though.

Craythray admittedly this is where the balancing gets a little bit messy with the mods, I admit. While I do honestly thing the two armours should be equal in stats, essentially for just more end-game options, there are certain benefits the vanilla forlorn armour has that are sacraficed by doing that with the stats. You could always modify the item json for the armor, and then rezip it as a custom version, then just have your players manually install that file. We've done that a few times with mods we wanted to tweak for our server.

Is there any way to request a compatibility patch for Xskills? ATM the blackguard claymore added isn't affected by the quality bonuses from smithing skills in Xskills since the weapon head itself doesn't have a quality level when made. The other weapons and armors are fine, just not the claymore.

Can we Change values in the itemtype config for server-side whithout any issue or will this mess up the client? I want to make it so Forlorn Armor and Blackguard Armor have Ups and Downs in some ways so Forlorn isn't just the obviously better option. I like the Warden Armor too much to trash it for Forlorn Zealot.

Irakonul I suppose making the bow slightly worse than recurve bow could do ^^ Or maybe making the recipe a lot harder. If i remember correctly in the Forlorn mod counterpart the bow have stats fitting the long bow.

Evoken somehow I never realized the recurve bow was class specific! I guess I always ended up buying one from a trader at some point, or the hunter on our server always crafted the bows for us. I am always open to suggestions when it comes to refining the balance of the items, just keeping in mind I am attempting to tailor these stats toward more end-game options.

I really like this mod, the only problem i have with it is is the bow having similar stats to the recurve bow. As recurve bow is class specific, it doesn't feel balanced :( Anyway another amazing mod!

_MagnusTheGreat_ presently, I have no plans to add support myself, as I don't use CO, I don't know the extent of the changes CO makes, nor do I know how to properly balance said changes for CO, and, given comments on a number of other mods I have been reading through, CO appears to be quite difficult to figure out patches for.

 

With that said, I gladly encourage anyone considering attmepting it to give it a try, as patching can be a great way to get framiliar with Vintage Story's formatting. A text editor with formatting support (Notepad++ on windows and the Gnome text editor on Linux, just as examples) is all you really need so long as you're not touching code files, which for things like this you shoudln't need to. Also, if you can run Vintage through a terminal, it does provide (normally) quite easy to read errors, which can be a huge help for fixing mistakes.

GratLurking I actually feel like this is the case, too. The Forlorn Hope pants and the Salvation tapestry lore, as well as the Blackguard leggings & greaves is a good connection, if you know the Dread Company's lore. I also heavily believe there is a connection between the Banner of the Forlorn Hope tapestry lore and the Holding the Gate tapestry lore, especially given the real-world origin of the term "Forlorn Hope".

Not sure how much I'll be able to explore this outside of item descriptions, but I would like to incorporate it in some subtle way to the Forlorn Hope mod I have in the works.

I know it's nowhere near the scope of things, but would be cool to see either an addition to this mod or a sibling mod to this focused on the Forlorn Hope gear. Always felt like there was some connection between them and the Blackguard, could be neat seeing expansion in that direction by the community as well!

RuinousLibrarian an incompatability with CO would seem to be the case, especially as this issue came up before with someone else using both mods together. This mod does not have any CO patches in it.

I'm not sure why, but I can't seem to equip either of the new armors. Might be because of Combat Overhaul?

EDIT: Warden armor suddenly started working with the CO armor auto patch system, but the Tracker armor still doesnt.

That is totally fair as I have zero ability to code or really do anything on a computer, I imagine this would be very hard haha. I do think combat animations is a big problem with vintage story in general at least for me. There is an older mod called simple combos that has some basic combo and animations for short sword that are very good, the author of this may be able to assist with weapon animations or maybe this could be used as a guide for the weapons. Although even with the current animations, your armour and weapon models are outstanding and for me by far the best I've seen so thank you!

Flib97 I completely agree that new animations would be awesome, though I fear I lack the knowledge of how to do so presently. The longsword and claymore animations are sadly a result of that, with them just being the spear thrust. I wanted to use the axe animations on the claymore, but it kept getting stuck in a loop; I may revisit this in the furture, however, especially if I can get my bearings with the Model Creator's animation tools.

Absolutely incredible mod and even more amazing with the latest update! I would love to see some better/unique animations for the new weapons, especially the longsword and greatsword as stabbing with these seems silly and some two handed swinging with the warhammer would also look a lot cooler IMO.

I noticed 2 bugs with a dagger:

It doesnt use cutting animation when breaking blocks - fixed it by moving knifeHitBlockAnimation: "knifecut" into the attributes:{} (like it is on a vanilla knife)

It doesnt lose durability when breaking blocks - fixed it by adding "blockbreaking" to damagedby: []

justOmi if I can figure out how to patch drop tables, then absolutely! Treasure hunter traders would be a reasonable way to obtain the armour; locations I would have to look into. I want to be sure that wherever I add the gear, it fits reasonably with the existing lore.

justOmi I was able to replicate this! It seems that, for some reason, the texture of the other armour pieces is being changed when the legs are equipped. I have no clue why this is happening, and thankfully it's on the variations of the Warden armour that aren't (supposed to be) obtainable in survival, presently. I was going to add them as a rare drop to the Resonance Archives in the future, so I should be able to fix the problem when I tackle that!

justOmi I don't seem to be able to replicate this. I tried in both singleplayer and on a server, equiped the helmet and curiass of the Warden armour but no greaves, and it appeared to look correct. Is it possible there is a conflict? Please let me know if you can figure anything else out and I'll do my best to fix it!

Destroyer_V0 I ended up noticing that as well after I replied earlier (seems to be something with the tool types in the item JSON); 1.1.3 should fix the issue (the global modifier not being applied). It still acts as little weird on servers, though we got it to apply on ours (doubling it, so 1700 instead of 850). Hopefully it will work elsewhere, but let me know if it still doesn't and I'll keep looking for a fix.

Destroyer_V0 good catch! Apparetly I did a dyslexia during the three-day sprint to get this update out and had accidentally put the values for tier 5 weapons/tools on the new items (meteoric iron instead of iron). Just put a patch up to fix that!

Seems like quite a few mods seem to suffer from a case of. Their weapons durability is not scaled by the ingame tool modifier. This one included. Though weirdly... the original longsword is, as far as I can tell

KnightessOruna you'll just want to go to the files tab at the top of the page, find the file starting with "BlackguardAdditons-Replacer" and select the download button beside it. Then, load it in-game just like any other mod. Hope that helps!

DrakeFoxo there is a Blackguard longsword if the mod is run alongside Gilded Steel, however I had not considered a greatsword before, and now I think I need to see it happen! If I do add it, it won't be dependant on other mods, either, same as some of the other gear currently in the works.

Great work! Been hoping for a mod for Blackguard-related items for a while now, so I'm very thankful for your work on this. Any plans to add blackguard greatsword/longswords in the future? Also excited for decor and maybe clothing!

Curious if you plan on doing a similar overhaul to Forlorn hope armour at some point?

I did see there was another mod for it, but I feel it departs a bit too far from the general asthetic of VS

Glad to hear everything works fine still.  Should you ever decide to try to make this mesh better with combat overhaul it looks like to me that the armor is  keeping its vanilla stats and the combat overhaul changes are getting added to it for whatever reason.  even the damage type protections given by CO seem to be added to.

Steel plate stuff has

7 Pierce def

7 Slash def

6 Blunt def

Warden stuff has

14 Pierce def

14  Slash def

7 Blunt def

 

Hope this could help in any way and that some kind of true compatibility happens down the line!

okpie this appears to be a mod incompatability. I double-checked just to be sure, the armour can be both equiped and swapped from the hotbar, and the debuffs displayed in the character screen match up (with them being slightly less intense than vanilla steel plate armour). There are no patches included for CO in this mod, as I don't use the mod, and lack the knowledge of the CO's system changes to adequately create them. Thank you for letting me know regardless!

 A few things that I noticed that might be an issue.

 -When right clicking with an armor piece while in the hotbar the armor does not equip

 -It looks like the armor is applying its debuffs for being worn twice maybe?

 

note that both of these issues exist with the combat overhaul mod installed as well

mod looks great and im excited to see what it has to offer down the line!

Version 1.0.2 of the content version of the mod should be the last fix I need to apply before adding new content, hopefully. Please inform me if I have missed any bugs, and I will do my best to squash them!

Shroomster yeah, I goofed up somewhere when getting the files together for release. I had been using this for around 5 months before I posted it, and the armour was working, but in the JSON three instances of "blackguardwarden" got replaced with "blackguard", and so the stats simply were gone. Shame I found out during a temporal storm!

oh, looking at the recent updates changelog maybe combat overhaul could work, seeing as that was why I ruled it out as working yesterday, that being due to the armor having no stats, I think I'll check again

MrBlandFlake I have actually considered this in the past, and for the exact reasons you listed. While it wouldn't be part of this mod, as this focuses on the Blackguard, I very well may make a Forlorn Hope mod in the future. I need to get my install of the model creator to stop crashing first, and get the second set of armour for this mod done, but after that it should be a fun project!

do you have any plans to make a forlorn hope version? i adore their lore but the armor itself always felt.. lacking. especially the lack of pauldrons and unique helmet. and if not, i and many other would love for you to make a forlorn hope mod.

following up on checking for compat with CO, it seems while they can exist at the same time, the armor and gilded steels weapons and tools do not use CO's systems, meaning more or less not compatible, again you can run them on the same server they just lack the benifits of CO's systems and armor/damage ratings. So sadly yes a patch would have to be made or if you as the mod author would be interested in doing so youself, which would be greatly appreciated, but if not I'm sure we understand.

NorthernSoul01, Shroomster, I don't use combat overhaul personally, so I am unsure what changes it makes to armour and weapons, or if additonal balancing would be needed. If CO requires weapon/armour-specific code/settings to be added to the individual items, then this likely lacks compatability presently, however if someone more versed in CO's changes decides to make a patch, then they have my permission to do so.
