ALERT: This mod's content is literally worthless in the base game. It's intended to be used with Expanded Foods
I thought it completely unreasonable how long alchohol takes to age in Expanded Foods, so I decided to add some containers built specifically to make the process faster.
This mod adds 2 new barrels specifically for aging alchohol (although it works on yogurt too, oops):
The aging cask holds 20 litres and doubles the rate at which liquids cure. It's crafted using 3 planks and 2 nails and strips and needs a hammer.
The aging tank holds 50 litres and increases the curing rate by a whopping 10 times! However, that power has a price. Specifically, it costs 4 steel plates and 4 steel nails and strips. That's over half a load of steel! Still need a hammer too.
This is my first proper mod, so feedback is welcome.

-added custom collision+selection boxes, so barrels no longer take up the whole block -added windowed variant of tank that visually fills up with liquid (liquid textures are currently static, as rendering the contents during the liquid render pass crashes the game and I don't know how to fix it) -window can be added by crafting the tank with a glass slab above it

-Improved cask model -reduced cost of cask: 2 rods to 2 nails and strips, effectively dividing metal cost by 4 3 planks to 2 planks -added a new cask variant that's oriented sideways, craftable by putting a regular cask in the crafting grid -be aware that adding the new variant resulted in me needing to change the item code, so the game will ask you to run a remap when loading into existing saves after you update

CrusadingPriest It should be fine, the mod doesn't patch any external code or change world gen.
Can this mod be added mid game. We have Expanded and would love to add this.
I absolutely LOVE the models for the steel barrels.
They really add to an alchemy lab build, not even counting how they make mass producing Aqua Vitae way more reasonable.
A cool additon might be a drying crate/palette for drying leather and other mods dryable stuff.
Either way, I had to mention the model in this comment.
Thanks ! The translation you made is pretty good, I made another one more precise than the previous one I made. 🍷
Wailwolf Added! Also made me realize that I had some hardcoded text that should have been moved to the lang files, so I did that and made an attempt to translate it.
Hey, thanks for you mod. I know there are not many lines to translate, but here is a french translation. Have a good day. 🌞
PurplePi Hello. I believe your conundrum about contents being square is a result of having two side panels open at same time which not only reveals the squareness of the contents (the main issue with which can only be seen in half-full barrels where contents are clipping into the barrel walls), but also gives me an impression of an open cupboard as a result of a very large area being revealed in the middle of the barrel.
I wonder if it would look better if you had a smaller one-side opening instead (it would be a narrow vertical rectangle) and then placed the visual contents in the shape of the same narrow vertical rectangle behind it to show the amount and type without having to display the inner structure of the barrel in all its glory.
Though even if the opening is simply changed to a narrow strip on a side, it might work just as well without changing how the contents inside are displayed.
That said the barrel models look splendid. Keep up the good work!!!
RIVVION I originally intended that, but I cared more about making the contents look good. So now I've made it a compromise like you said, with a squared inside and flush outside. Guess I just needed a push to actually do it.
Could you please make the glass window flush with the cylindrical shape of the barrel? doesn't matter if the liquid is still square inside.
The flat square window on the side of a barrel looks a little strange.
great mod though! will download. keep up the good work!
Oh my! The mod that's the answer to my woes!!
nstrmntlst That sounds neat, but i don't think I have the time to work on something like that right now. Maybe sometime in the future, though.
"Aging" alcohol, or maturation, typically occurs best in wooden casks. Open steel tanks are good for "resting" alcohol, but it doesn't add any flavour or colour - really it only mellows the spirit. For the purposes of your mod, which I can see where you were going with it, a closed steel barrel would actually age alcohol slower than an oak cask, due to steel not really allowing for evaporation. I'm in the distilled spirits industry, and have been wanting to work with someone to rework the alcohol production and aging processes in this game for a while. If you'd like to collaborate (my modding skills are nonexistent, but I have some knowledge of the process that could be workable into a mod), let me know.
I love the barrel! keep up the good work!
