Any word on an update for 1.22? Or does it still work on the newest updates?

Sander093, May 16th at 7:34 PM

Getting an error:

Patch 0 (target: game:blocktypes/metal/lantern.json) in lettherebelight:patches/lantern.json failed because supplied path /lightHsv/2 is invalid: The json path /lightHsv/2 was not found. No such element 'lightHsv' at the root path

DecaByte Yes, however there is a difference between held/ placed items. Placed items seem to be brighter than when carried.
This mod does increase brightness, which in turn increases the radius. Though only by a little.
Keep in mind that if you modify the 'h,s,v' values, there seems to be a max. With the 'v' set to 29, the game is fine with it. With 'v' set to 30, the game will CTD. This is likely due to a hardcoded limit.

DecaByte, Jan 26th at 5:02 AM

Does increasing the brightness also increase the range/distance?

NomadicPirate , Jan 26th at 2:19 AM (modified Jan 26th at 2:25 AM)

V0.0.6 was retracted because I realised right after releasing that 'Ancient Tools' and 'Primitive Survival' patches were saved as .txt instead of .json.
V0.0.7 fixes this. Sorry about that.

Airz Primitive Survival compatibility has been added.

NomadicPirate , Jan 12th at 5:19 AM

Airz This has been planned for a while. Not sure when the next update will be since I've been working on other mods. Probably soon though.

Airz, Jan 12th at 4:58 AM

would anyone by chance know if its alr in, or be possible to add by the author. the wooden lanterns from the primitive survival mod. I love the basic light color they produce but they are about torch light when id like em to be slightly brighter so i dont need 6 of them to fill a single room.

BrianG535 I just seen it hit 10k! Thank you for the support! 🤘

I was download #10,001 :)

SerenePeace Whoops! I missed that one 😬. Thank you for reporting it.
Fixed in V0.0.5

SerenePeace, Dec 18th 2025 at 5:30 PM

This mod currently doesn't work for oil lamps. The JSON is pointing to the wrong location. It needs to be changed to this:

{
...,
"file": "game:blocktypes/clay/fired/oillamp.json",
...
}

I also tested this with the Hanging Oil Lamps mod and they are compatible as is, including after my fix.

NomadicPirate , Nov 29th 2025 at 4:10 AM

Taska Eyy, you're welcome! I'll change it on my end and push out an update within a couple days.

Thanks for letting me know! Cheers!🍻

Taska, Nov 29th 2025 at 2:55 AM

NomadicPirate Heeey, thanks for adding compatibility for Ancient Tools! I'm the dev. It seems you have fallen victim to my sloppy JSON writing 😅. The 'lightHsvbyType' property that you are trying to target in my lampsaucer.json should actually be 'lighthsvByType'. The other patch does run correctly.

I could change the value in my files to match your patch, if you like, but my turnaround time with modding is often quite slow. If you want to tackle it first, please do! If not, I'll tweak it on my end. Just let me know ☺️

Sume 1.21 update is here! Sorry for the wait!

Sume, Oct 21st 2025 at 1:29 PM

Hello, I don't think the mod works for v1.21. I tried to change it, but the paths used by the JSONs are still the same (except for oil lamps, which had it changed), so I don't know what needs to be changed. Any possibility of an update or any clue as to what could be wrong?

NomadicPirate , Apr 25th 2025 at 5:40 AM

icehorse No, this mod is still functioning as intended. 1.20.9 changed light client side only as stated in the blog post you linked.
PS: I did test this to make sure it still functioned properly.

icehorse, Apr 25th 2025 at 4:41 AM

https://www.vintagestory.at/blog.html/

how does the recent 1.20.9 update affect this mod? Is this mod obsolete now?

NomadicPirate , Apr 16th 2025 at 6:16 PM

Evoken Ancient Tools compatibility is a pretty good idea! I'll look into adding it when I get a little time. Thank you for the suggestion! Cheers 🍻

Evoken, Apr 16th 2025 at 2:25 PM

NomadicPirate Thanks for the advice! It was indeed simple :) I raised every light source by 2 except oil lamps. Now it seems to be perfect ^^

PS. It would be awesome if you could add compatibility with Ancient Tools mod for pitch torches!

NomadicPirate , Apr 16th 2025 at 3:29 AM

Evoken Personally I don't want to increase it any more. 4 higher than vanilla is already a significant amount more light.
If you would like to increase the values by any amount more, you can do so. Simply unpack the mod, navigate to the patches and edit the numbers as you please. Re-pack the mod and viola! Brighter light sources.

Evoken, Apr 15th 2025 at 6:30 PM

That's great news! Could you maybe increase the light radius even a bit more? I think that would be overall good for mod like this ^^

NomadicPirate , Apr 15th 2025 at 4:11 PM

Evoken It changes 'h,s,v' values. Increasing brightness. Which in turn, increases the radius too (only by a little).

Evoken, Apr 15th 2025 at 1:12 PM

Do this mod change light radius? Or only brightness? The vanilla light radius is soo bad...

NomadicPirate , Apr 11th 2025 at 6:52 AM

Centcom15 This mod does not change the brightness between 'held items' and 'placed items'. Just brightness overall. Also there is no config to be edited.
Note: The pictures above show how much of a difference there is. Which isn't a ton, but noticeable.

Centcom15, Apr 11th 2025 at 4:38 AM

I've got this installed but it doesn't seem to be increasing light amounts. Everything is still significantly brighter when held in hand than when attached to wall, put in holders or put on the ground. Haven't gone in trying to change configs yet though.

MelonGremlin, Feb 8th 2025 at 1:11 AM

Oh thank god, I was getting a headache from the light differences (holding a lantern is so much brighter than putting it down, thats silly)

NomadicPirate , Feb 7th 2025 at 6:27 PM

Loco Have not tested with light sources from other mods. Likely not. I could add patches in the future though.

Loco, Feb 7th 2025 at 3:26 PM

Hi there, does your mod work with light sources from other mods?
