Healthy Hot Springs Mod

Tired of stepping into a hot spring and taking damage like it's molten lava? Well, no more! This simple mod reworks hot springs to actually feel like... hot springs.
Instead of burning you alive, gradually restore your health at a rate of 5 HP per minute.

Why?

Because it just makes sense. You step into warm, mineral-rich water—you heal. Not melt.

Known Issue:

  • If you have a shield in your offhand, standing in a hot spring may rapidly trigger passive blocks. This causes loud sounds and drains shield durability unusually fast.

Disclaimer

I’m not a pro modder. I made this mod simply because I wanted it in my game and couldn’t find an alternative. It shouldn’t break anything (in theory).
Hope this helps someone else! Let me know if you run into any other weird behaviors!

Hello! For some reason when being in hot springs water with this mod, you start stuttering all over the place, as if taking constant damage.

I second the keep warm in winter option. I would like hot springs to be useful hot water or a bath, but I could do without the healing effect. Would be fun if throwing a bit of food on a string into an expecially hot one could create a boiled food.

Ditto what has already been said "Because it just makes sense. You step into warm, mineral-rich water—you heal. Not melt" - is not correct. Hot spring simply denotes warm water. That warm water can be tepid, little more than the average spring, it can be like a pleasant bath, or it can be a scalding environment only suitable for extremophile bacteria.

This said, I would like some variety in game, that you can get some springs that you can actually swim in, and others that give immediate severe burns. I'm glad you've made the option. Just be aware that it "healing" you like in Breath of the Wild or something is a very video gamey thing. In real life springs have nice minerals in them that can be healthy for you - but having gone swimming in several hot spring fed pools myself, they also usually make you super dehydrated - so the benefits are mixed.

One thing that would be really nice is if the simply warm springs could actually keep you warm in winter. You could build a neat little resort around it.  :)   Also also, again, I know you're not too experienced in modding at this time - you'll want to make sure to remove the bacterial mats around the springs, as those wouldn't be there in a cooler, but still warm spring [you do get things like gross algae sometimes, though that would be a new thing that'd need to be added.]

Well, in some real cases you do literally melt in these springs until there's nothing organic left... maybe it should be based on hot spring temperature (or even local geology?) and a bigger version of this mod could change worldgen to have some safe and some dangerous springs!

Disturbing example, with a spring that looks a lot like ths VS ones: https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/us-news/mans-tragic-last-moments-filmed-24291344

Thank you for your question! The mod is very simple and should keep working for a long time. I don’t update the version info often because I don’t have much time for maintenance.

It will only stop working if the dev changes the hot spring block behavior, which hopefully will be communicated if it happens.

P.S. I might update it soon to fix a big mistake of mine - I accidentally included a placeholder image of my character in the mod files, which makes the mod file size much larger than necessary. Sorry about that!

💬 Mildred, Jun 4th at 2:41 PM

Is there gonna be an update to this one for the current version?

💬 Takarams , Feb 12th at 11:09 AM

Kalve

Thank you, very useful information.

But yeah, I'm not sure I can fix it. The thing is, the game counts it as "healing" damage, even though it was originally "heat" damage. So both the game and the shield still count it as damage that needs to be blocked.

Maybe someone more knowledgeable can solve this problem)

💬 Kalve, Feb 12th at 4:27 AM

Simple but effective. Thanks for the mod!

Weird bug report: if you've got a shield on your offhand when you're in a spring, it will rapidly trigger passive blocks, making a horrendous noise and very quickly depleting shield durability. I'm not sure what you could do to fix this that isn't beyond the scope of a small patch, but I figured, if nothing else, other people might like to hear about the behavior.

💬 LunaGore, Feb 10th at 6:57 PM

No problem! Was just curious, I'm attempting to get into modding myself just having difficulties getting a workplace setup for testing :)

LunaGore

I suppose so, but it requires deep code modernization and writing a mod in C#.

But, as I already indicated, I am not a modder, my knowledge is simply not enough for this. The whole point of this mod is based on a simple change, roughly speaking, of negative damage in the parameter.

Well, yes, if you believe the description of the game, the local hot springs have a temperature of about 75 Celsius, which, naturally, is undesirable for the body) But the desire to bathe in them overcame my commitment to logic

💬 LunaGore, Feb 3rd at 7:29 PM

Would it be possible to have both? There's hot springs in the real world that are just filled with sulfur and will kill you.

💬 Annastasija, Feb 1st at 9:51 PM

This is what is should have been all along <3

💬 Asil, Feb 1st at 8:15 PM

Bath time!

💬 Muirey, Feb 1st at 3:23 PM

As someone who almost exclusively builds near hotsprings you have no idea how much I love this.

Already downloaded an tested takin a bath in the one next to current base. <3

💬 Sell, Feb 1st at 11:52 AM

Great idea, now we can finally have a healing hot spring resort on the server for tired adventurers.
Cheers,
