will say that this is simple enough that, as long as no major changes to the recipe are made in vanilla, and no changes to how json patching works are made, this still works
so feel free to use it. I'm unlikely to bump the version number for a while, unless someone wants to give me $2200 to upgrade my PC so I can actually run the game again lol

Hey friend! I know it's not the same, but if you're looking for a quern-type option for the stone age, I use Ancient Tools, which has a small mortar and pestle and lets you grind stuff one item at a time, but can be used Fully in the stone age, no metal required at all!
The mod is still slightly outdated, but if you use the tester's option, it is newer, up to 1.21.0 at least (i still used it with zero issues up to 1.21.4 so hopefully it still works)
I still like the idea of this mod, but until it can be updated, the ancient tools is a good substitute

yes but you can cast that, rather than requiring an entire anvil to smith a chisel just to make it

iirc it was to "make sense" but like
we had bread IRL loooooong before we had metal tools
hy they made the quern require tools. Just maming the game harder for the sake of making the game harder?
