This mod adds more path types as both blocks and slabs. It also adds stair variants that cannot be accurately recreated using the chisel. As always, I tried to make these new blocks match their vanilla counterparts as closely as possible, mostly by using the game’s existing textures as a base.

Here is a list of the new additions:

  • Dirt paths – These come in two varieties: a regular dirt path and a dry-arid dirt path. The regular dirt path block can be placed in the crafting grid to obtain a plain/barren version with less texture clutter, allowing for more control over the appearance of the paths. All of these can be crafted as either blocks or slabs.
  • Stone roads – These vary in both color and pattern. They come in gray, dark, and light variants, each available in diagonal and offset patterns. They can be crafted as blocks, slabs, or stairs. The stair variants can also be placed in the crafting grid to produce a lowered version, allowing for smoother transitions between different path blocks. All of these also include an ashlar edged variant, intended for use as steps or road gutters.
  • Polished rock stairs – A stair variant of the polished rock block available in three versions: a regular version where each step uses its own polished stone slab, and two offset variants: one with the offset on the first step and another on the second.
  • Wooden steps – Simple wooden steps that can be stacked to create stairs. These come in both a regular and a two-block-wide version. Variants are available for every wood type, including aged (update: and now, very aged) wood.

When Geology Additions is installed, your mod mistakenly attempts to create polished rock stairs from GA stones. They aren't craftable, but they exist in the handbook and creative inventory as untextured stair blocks.

just had a CTD (crash to desktop) after a full dirt path block near a ledge (with falling blocks on), i'm also using bear's shifty earth, and soil must fall vertically.
the log mentions a null exception with the falling block entity; (i'd post it, but its little more than my 150 mod list, plus a single error at the bottom)
i love this mod btw. (i do dream of a day when we can have more stone paths, but this is already so good, so i'd rather not be a pest)

oh! the order the crash happened in was;
placeing dirt path, then sound of soil falling, one frame with the dirt path moving, then crash. (it hung on the frame of the dirt falling for half a second)

Thank you!

Alright, well I'm going to try to replicate it on my end. First just by itself and then with the mods you mentioned. Btw, is this a crash you were able to make it happen more than once, or was this a one time thing?

it would happen any time the full block dirt path was unstable & falling (placing on the side of the block, so that the dirt block is in air (no block below it) caused the same issue. (tried to aim at the ground, and clipped a tree (using eco machina, so the tree hitbox was diffrent from its size))

not sure why this would happen, but it happens to me with terrain slabs too, (whenever a slab from that mod goes unstable it crashes)
Oh! i'm using dana's tweaks, that makes more dirt blocks unstable, maybe thats the main cause?

I'm getting

Thanks for bringing these to my attention!

I've corrected the issue that was causing the error messages. It wasn't anything big or game breaking but at least now you don't get a wall of text in the client log file anymore.

As for the warning message, that happens because you probably have a mod installed that adds syenite to the rock property file. That is not a big deal.

These fixes will be uploaded together with a bunch of other fixes and changes on the next version of this mod. I just haven't had the time to complete it.

Would you allow gravel to be used as a replacement of packed earth for the stone paths? It'd be nice to have an alternative to using dirt, especially for gravel deserts. (Sand deserts too would be nice but it kinda doesn't make sense for sand to be usable for that)

@Hrodulf: Well, historically road construction involved using gravel, but not as a replacement. From what I know the foundation was usually compacted earth. Gravel would then sit above it to help with drainage and load distribution and then above that a bedding lay

A related QoL feature I just thought of, since you would be adding to the recipe for arid packed dirt anyway; It'd be really great to be able to use dirt paths as a replacement for packed dirt in the recipe, so that if you make a dirt path but want to upgrade it later you can do so without having a lot of extra paths that you may not have a use for.

Which, also makes me think of another QoL feature, though it'd definitely be less easy then that; It'd be really great if you could make path block in-world, without using the crafting grid. So, for example, having a shovel mode for making dirt paths, similar to Pack your Shovel, and can then use rocks in the main hand with a hammer in the off hand to upgrade dirt paths into stone paths.

Does 1.1.0 also work for 1.21? If not could you backport those changes as well? I'm currently using Terrain Slabs and I want to add this mod.

I think it does work. At least I don't think there is any major issue that might stop the mod from loading and functioning properly. I simply did not test it on 1.21, since I have now moved to the 1.22 version. That is why I dropped the 1.21 compatibility tag.

But, hey, if you try it on the 1.21, please let me know if you find any issues.

A quick thanks for making this mod...I have a narrow entryway, and the vanilla stairs were too imposing. Yours really open up the space!

You're welcome :)

Btw, that is a really cool interior. I like the color pallet you went with. That wallpaper goes pretty well with that wood.

LoneWolfAlpha42, Jun 2nd at 6:31 AM

Unfortunate. I need stairs that work with 1x2 trapdoor for head clearance I use with my cellar. These'll work for other things, but I'll have to chisel my own steep stairs for my basement.

@Hrodulf: You're saying that you would need a steeper version of the steps, correct? Tbh, I did play around with that idea while I was working on this mod. The issue is that once you start changing the angle things don't line up as well as I would prefer. Here is a

Yea, that's kinda close to how I chisel it, then I slap some beams on the sides for smooth stringers
Lety me see if I can get an image of how I've done it. I'm on a new world right now, so I haven;t made it in this one yet

Hrodulf , Jun 8th at 9:36 PM
@Pineas: Traditional stairs and stepladders tend to be about this steep in order to save floorspace in medieval homes. That's more or less what you should be making.
Pineas, Jun 8th at 9:41 PM
@Hrodulf: True. This is why I wanted to include a steeper version from the start. My only issue was the execution. But I think I got it. I might just reduce the tread length of that version. I also have to figure out if it's best to have this as a multiblock (two b

I think you should attempt programming a block that transforms to match its neighbors, that'd save you from a lot of conundrums like that and honestly also improve many other blocks in this mod.

Hello, loving the mod so far! Would it be possible to have stone roads with a fanned cobble look as well?

Thank you! I'll consider it, it would definitely be possible but I'm not entirely sold on the idea. I'm just not a fan (no pun intended) of using that pattern on a road. I think it looks best on sidewalks.

Hrodulf , May 26th at 10:08 PM

Raccoon, should be fixed now.

Vynk, May 26th at 5:24 PM

beautiful mod, definitely using this.

JoeJ09, May 26th at 12:56 PM

Hi there, excellent mod, the paths you've created are absolutely gorgeous, and fit perfectly with vintage story :) . Just wanted to point out what I think is a minor incompatibility with Terrain Slabs, in case you were interested in addressing it. The dirt path slab crafting recipe from your mod is the same as the low fertility soil slab and medium fertility soil slab crafting recipe from Terrain Slabs; two soil blocks side by side. This results in users of both mods no longer able to craft soil slabs from Terrain Slabs for those two blocks. If you were interested in creating compatiliblity for your mod and Terrain Slabs, I and surely many others would greatly appreciate it. Regardless, thank you for the excellent mod; I'll be using these paths extensively in my base for sure :) .

The stone road (offset pattern) as example, has a different height than the normal road, is this on purpose?

Hrodulf , May 26th at 12:06 PM
@Raccoon: The stone road (offset pattern) as example, has a different height than the normal road, is this on purpose?

Ah, interesting. While I used the vanilla stone-path blocktype file as a template to create my modded paths (I did this to ensure that they only differ in the ways that I intended), I mostly developed and tested my modifications on the 1.21 version. And It seems that in this new version of the game, they changed the collisionbox to reflect the actual size of the block. The collision box of the stone-paths used to be the same as all the other regular blocks.

Welp, I suppose a patch is in order. Good catch, thank you :)
Axebeard, May 26th at 6:18 AM

Nice! The vanilla stairs are so hideous.

Fefa, May 26th at 2:38 AM

do they offer a walk speed bonus?

Hrodulf , May 26th at 12:12 PM
@Fefa: do they offer a walk speed bonus?

Yep. The default speed is 1. The stone-roads offer a 1.3 speed increase (same as the vanilla stone-paths), while the dirt-paths offer a 1.2 speed increase. Slightly less for balance reasons.
