ModStory
A native MacOS VS Mod Manager
* This is an Apple Disk Image (.dmg) in a zip file You must unpack it and move it to your Applications folder. This does not go into your VS Mods folder it is a standalone third party application *
Overview
ModStory helps you manage your game mods by providing a relatively easy to use interface for viewing, and updating your installed mods.
Features
- Update Checking: Automatically check for available updates for your installed mods
- One-Click Updates: Download and install mod updates with a single click or update only the ones you want
- Detailed Mod Information: View mod descriptions, changelogs, tags
Roadmap
- Better UI
- Ability to browse mods and install straight from the app
- More robust JSON parsing and API matching
- Ability to exclude mods from updates
- App update checking
- Apple App Store release
Requirements
- macOS 15.0 or later
- Vintage Story game installation
Usage
1. Launch the application - This is an Apple Disk Image in a zip file. Unpack and mount the .dmg and drag it to your Applications folder. Unmount the disk image then you can delete the dmg and zip. Load the app from your Applications folder.
2. Select your mods directory in the Settings page
3. Browse your installed mods, click them for detailed information and change logs
4. Download and install updates by hitting Update All or individually
If you have issues with finding or updating mods go into Settings and choose your mod directory again. This app is Sandboxed and can only read/write into the folder you set as the mod directory.
Disclaimer
- This is my first Swift/SwiftUI app and was basically just cobbled together as a learning experience. It is very flawed and looks like it was thrown together by a toddler.

advion Sounds great, thanks!
Parenn I'll check this out and try to find a simple solution for this for the next version.
At the moment Better Ruins has two parallel versions, one for 1.20 and one for 1.21 pre-releases.
If you're adding features, being able to deal with a situation like that would be great, maybe by pinning a version (or a major/minor version, and let revision change?)
@advion looking forward to it! ♡
eerino Parenn Thank you glad it's working for both of you. Currently rewriting a bunch of the API and Cache backend at the moment for 1.5.0.
YEY!! I did not want to switch to mac but it was the only thing I could afford. Been waiting for one of these compatible with mac! Thanks for making it!
Edit. That was quick! Works great!
Nice work, the UI is straightforward but it does the trick!
