WARNING: This project was created entirely by AI (ChatGPT 5.6: Sol xhigh and Luna Max), Exceptionally temporary with Claude (Opus 5).

ModernAtlas only displays terrain that has already been loaded by your game. It does not generate or reveal unexplored areas of the world.

Multiplayer compatibility
ModernAtlas can still be installed client-side on servers that do not have the mod.
When ModernAtlas 0.6.9 is installed on a server, every connecting client must also have ModernAtlas with the matching network version. Older clients and clients without the mod will be rejected before joining.

0.6.8 modernatlas
1.22.3 - 1.22.7

## ModernAtlas 0.6.8

This release improves atlas rendering, performance controls, safety, and usability.

### What’s new

- Added Low and High atlas performance profiles.
- Added a preparation message while the first atlas frame is loading.
- Added animated open doors to the atlas.
- Added a proper scrollbar to the Settings panel.
- Added smooth damage warnings with an optional automatic atlas close.
- Added improved /ma command help and explicit /ma cheat on|off commands.

### Visual improvements

- Fixed water disappearing when zooming, rotating, or changing the camera angle.
- Improved water depth shading while preserving real water geometry and textures.
- Improved the background behind unavailable terrain and concealed cave openings.
- Removed distracting background noise that appeared to move with the camera.
- Reduced narrow blue gaps between moving leaves near chunk boundaries.
- Improved exposure consistency across terrain, water, clouds, and empty space.
- Preserved very dark colors on blocks added by other mods.
- Fixed atlas decorations and ensured the opening/closing backdrop remains opaque.
- Improved camera fitting so rejected frontier chunks no longer create dark corners.

### Important performance clarification

I was not aware that an earlier AI-assisted implementation had introduced FPS-limiting behavior for the atlas. I do not approve of or permit ModernAtlas to control the game’s FPS.

ModernAtlas must never modify Vintage Story’s global FPS limit, VSync, frame pacing, render-loop timing, or ordinary world-rendering performance. The new Low and High profiles affect only atlas-owned preparation and visual detail
after the atlas begins opening. They remain inactive while the atlas is closed and do not limit the focused atlas refresh rate.

 ### Testing

- Release build completed without warnings or errors.
- Low-angle zoom and water rendering were tested.
- Two complete atlas open/render/close cycles passed.
- World-exit and renderer-state restoration checks passed.
- The water fix was visually confirmed in game.

0.6.7 modernatlas
1.22.3 - 1.22.7
62 Aug 20th at 10:26 PM Release Retracted

Retraction Reason:

This release contains unintended FPS-limiting behavior that may interfere with Vintage Story's global frame pacing and performance settings. I was not aware that this behavior had been introduced, and I do not authorize ModernAtlas to modify or limit the game's FPS. Users should update to version 0.6.8, where this behavior has been removed and performance controls are strictly limited to atlas-owned work.

Changelog:

  • Added tiled atlas screenshots with up to 8x scale support and filter previews
  • Added improved data layers, ore analysis, and inspection tools
  • Added damage warnings and responsive controls
  • Fixed atlas lighting, liquids, boundaries, and world rendering
  • Fixed atlas transitions, streamed layers, and rendering performance
  • Fixed screenshot animations and player visibility
  • Improved trees, compact UI, and map controls

This is genuinely awesome. is it possible to disable settiongs for other players if you own a server?

This is amazingly ambitious, I love it. Going to be building my Cartography domain with this being the final tier benefit of. I'll let you know if I come across any bugs or performance improvements. Arcylisz

👍 Thanks. I just found one bug: when the door is open, it doesn’t show up in Atlas.
I’ll also try to make a few more performance improvements.

Installed mod v0.6.7 alongside Vintage Story v1.22.7

Opened the atlas and only saw the grey background, mousing over the area showed tool-tips, so the atlas was pulling map-data but not rendering the image.

Theres also a very noticeable fps issue, there seems to be a scheduled event thats tanking fps and causing a stutter every 3 seconds (solid 75fps with a tiny stutter every 3-seconds, with fps count spiking to 0fps for a fraction of a second before bouncing back). Removing the atlas mod resolved the fps stuttering with no additional actions.

Latest version needs more testing.

I checked the public 0.6.7 download and confirmed that it is the same version I tested locally.

I tested it successfully on Vintage Story 1.22.7 using a Ryzen 5 5600X, 48 GB of RAM and an Intel Arc B580. A friend has also tested it successfully using a Ryzen 5 5660X and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti.

When you join a world and open the atlas for the first time, it is normal to see a grey background briefly while the renderer prepares the already-loaded terrain. The terrain should appear after a short moment. Did the atlas remain grey indefinitely for you, or did the terrain eventually load?

I need a little more information to determine what happened. Could you please send me your client-main.log and, if possible, a short recording showing the grey atlas and how long it remains visible? I would also need some information about your PC, especially your CPU, GPU, amount of RAM. I have no idea yet how the mod behaves on other hardware configurations.

The log can be found at VintagestoryData/Logs/client-main.log. Please send it after reproducing the issue.

You can also contact me on Discord: arcylisz_lord -  (Nickname Arcylisz). It may be easier to share the log and recording there.

I’ll see what I can do, work on some fixes, and release a new public version next week.

Oh, sorry, I shouldn’t have added “the project was made by AI.” Then you would’ve liked the mod and used it

I can understand that AI is a heated subject and i am aware of people using AI as an support to cross check code or verify strings but that is also part of future development. You should still add the AI tag to the mod page, to comply with the mod rules, so people like that can just avoid your mod, so they aren't "forced" to comment how much they dislike AI :D

Hey, tested on multiplayer as client only and it works well. (you can safely set the side as client)
I second smt923 idea, hopefuly with an ability to render the images in higher resolution than the preview is.

Thank you for testing it in multiplayer.
For now, while it’s still in development, the “scale” + “zoom” options in the screenshot settings provide better image quality. Here’s a comparison between 1x scale and 8x scale https://imgur.com/a/O9DveSe .
It will be available next week.

Render on 3D scroll setting is causing a flickering from a fullscreen map to the scroll map in the bottom left corner of my screen. Can share screens in discord.

smt923, Aug 15th at 1:41 AM

if we can get some way to export like a nice size image out of this that would b e pretty cool

Ensorcelled, Aug 15th at 12:29 AM

Tried it, pretty spiffy, and speedy.
