Stone Chests & Storage Variants

Tired of having a beautiful stone homestead cluttered with nothing but identical wooden boxes? This mod expands your organizational toolkit by introducing stone-crafted chest and trunk variants directly matching the geology of your world.

Whether you want to build a secure-looking granite vault or visually categorize your storage layout by material type, this mod makes it easy to organize your home or base at a single glance.

Current Features

⛏️ Standard Stone Chests & Trunks

Craft durable, themed storage containers out of your favorite local rock types. Currently supports both Chest and Trunk variants for:

  • Andesite, Basalt, Bauxite, Chalk, Chert, Granite, Limestone, Peridotite, Sandstone, and Shale.

💎 The End-Game Special: The Emerald Chest

For high-tier survivalists who manage to hoard enough precious gems, you can craft the exclusive Emerald Chest (Chest variant only).

  • Perk: Infused with the crystalline energy of pure emeralds, this chest significantly slows down food spoilage rates, making it a perfect decorative alternative for long-term pantry storage.

📝 Note: Crafting recipes and visual previews are available in the screenshots tab!

Inspiration & Credits

A huge shoutout to the creators of the Vanilla Variants mod! This mod’s JSON logic was heavily referenced and built upon to successfully adapt these multi-typed container properties into the game.

Also to JimmyJTC, whoose help has been paramount to my modding skills and energy to mod.

The Roadmap

Here is what's planned for future updates to the mod:

Complete the Geology
Phase 1

Incorporate the remaining vanilla Vintage Story stone types so no block is left behind.

More Special Chests
Phase 2

Introduce 2 brand-new, high-tier special utility chests (TBD — open to community ideas!).

Backend Optimization
Phase 3

Refactor and clean up the underlying JSON code to minimize redundant text, simplify the file structure, and optimize mod performance.

The Glass Variant Experiment
Phase 4

Investigate and implement a clear glass variant chest that allows you to see the actual items sitting inside the container inventory space.

Perhaps this already exists (haven't checked) or outside of the scope of this mod, but what about different wooden chests (just for color sake)?

Check JimmyJTC mods! He has one for wooden chests, that is super complete and well done.

Stone types if mainly decorative could take textures from cobble and dry stone variants along with their mixes.

Higher tier? Perhaps a sort of cabinet like chest that is 2 tall/wide that opens a set of doors but is the equivalent of 4 and 1/2 chest?

Maybe sneaky chest that look exactly like their stone form but can be opened with a smaller storage.

Could follow the path of tiered chest from other mods where more cost = more storage.

Also optional are gilded chest and rock variant chest. Using different metals to give them accents on the edges and such.

Great Ideas! I specially like the cabinets one, that could help diferentiate from just a texture mod.
1 Thing I would like o avoid is generating many blocks just as variants. This weights the mod, and in the end its hardly usefull.

The sneaky chest is spot on! maybe we should put a clue in, for the thieves!Oh or maybe a trap?

Im new to modding, so I also need to check for my capabilities with all the ideas.
