This mod is a revamp of the light levels of various sources.
My intent was not to strictly buff or nerf any particular light source, but to instead provide what I felt was a more sensible level of progression through the light sources according to resource investment and general accessibility as well as to provide some simple additional recipes for torches and oil lamps.
The new levels are as follows
Torch - 8
Oil Lamp - 12
Torch Holder - 14
Metal Lantern - 16
(lit)Fire Pit - 20
For a simple explanation of why - I have always felt that torch timed-burnout never really made a lot of sense because it is the only light source in the game to do so. I understood why that was - keeping them balanced for their relative cheapness and to encourage you to progress down the tech tree, but I felt like it was needlessly restrictive on torches being used for more creative building(Where you want the color of warm light of a torch, for example).
So, to balance out that torches now last forever(Even through rain, though they will still go out if you jump in water), I lowered their overall light level considerably to befit their status as a much earlier-game option for lighting. I feel this also accomplishes the original goal of driving players to advance the tech tree to get better options, or to seek Torch Holders to get the higher light level of Torches back.
Everything else, I just adjusted a little bit to bring it into parity with the other changes and to provide a little more clear progression through the options.
With one exception; the fire pit. I bumped the fire pit up considerably because I, frankly, don't believe a simple lantern should be brighter than an actual campfire that is, mechanically, actively using resources to provide light. Bonfire enjoyers rejoice!
Finally, I added(I did not remove the existing recipes) two recipes, that allow the usage of resin in place of dried grass and fat for making torches and oil lamps respectively.
The torch recipe provides a higher output number of torches, and the oil lamp is fundamentally the same, but with 4 resin taking the place of fat. I thought this was a nice change for folks who might not want to hurt animals, or want a more consistently renewable way to get the slightly empowered oil lamps.
Otherwise, this is my very first mod for basically anything, so I hope everyone enjoys it.

Does not seem to be working for me, light levels are unaffected and the new recipes don't show up. Maybe it needs an update to 1.22.2?
just what i was looking for, thank you
@SnugglyWuggums
Thank you very much.
@maximumOverkek
I'll try to take a look at it tomorrow. Spent all day trying to get a modded server up and running on the new version and I'm all tapped out today!
Maybe it's just me but the mod isn't working. The resin alternative recipes aren't anywhere to be found.

As far as I know, it should work fine. If it doesn't, hit me up on the VS discord and I'll see about adapating it. I just have been working on writing full time, so I've fallen off on working on VS stuff
Does this still work with the new update?
I just started playing so I'm looking around for immersive but QoL type mods :)
Does adding silver or gold lining to a lantern still add +2 light level like it does in vanilla?
And did you do anything to candles?
