Latest release (for Vintage Story 1.22.0-pre.1 - 1.22.3, potentially outdated):
keepcraftinggrid-1.0.0.zip  1-click install

Prevents items from dropping out of the crafting grid when the inventory is closed
Items from crafting grid are not dropped even after exiting server
KeepMouseSlot can be enabled in config (item from this slot is dropped after exiting server so its disabled by default)

Its just gives 9 additional permament slots without backpack so it’s basically a cheat

I basically play like this already. Immersive mouse with inventory/character "movable" on the side.

yeah, but main difference that you can leave server without dropping items

I think you could balance this out a bit by making it require a specialized backpack to work.  If it could be made to take up two backpack slots, then it would only provide 4.5 spaces per slot, making it less efficient than linen bags, which would make a cheap recipe reasonable.  Otherwise 9 spaces for 1 slot puts it above sturdy leather backpacks, so you'd need a very expensive recipe to "properly" balance it.  You could even have both - an early-game "Simple Craftpack" that fills two slots, and a late-game "Advanced Craftpack" that only takes one.  Just being an ideasguy :P

a better way is to just enable the functinality of the mod when all 4 backpack slots are used, tier of backpack doesn't matter. a simple mod like this doesn't need feature bloat and add an item that only has a single purpose and is LOCKED behind sturdy backpacks that is insane. yeah, let me just download this mod that I can't even use until I'm at steel or something. as well adding the risk of whenever the mod is removed, any items you were holding in that backpack will just go missing. feature bloat is a mess

for the "disable keep grid when backpacks is less than 4" (or something) functionailty it should be a config file that is toggleable. it dosen't really need balancing. in vanilla I just have gui movement enabled so I can go run back home with my inventory open and loot in my crafting grid.

overall, I like this mod, it's already simple and straight to the point and does not necessarily need changing. this saves me a lot of time when crafting the more complex items that literally uses 6-8 unique items likes a saw, a chisel, a hammer, an axe, both fat and resin, sticks boards and logs. I'm looking at you mechanical parts...
