HOD Visualizer

Understand your active survival effects at a glance - no guessing, no hidden penalties.

This page focuses on what you will see in-game and how to read it quickly.

Required dependencies: Install both Hydrate Or Diedrate and Player Status HUD. Installing HOD Visualizer alone does not make sense and will not provide useful gameplay status output.
Status coverage
Thirst

Thirst

Appears when hydration enters debuff range and indicates movement speed penalty.

Critical Thirst

Critical Thirst

Appears at zero hydration or lower and warns about periodic damage plus stronger movement penalty.

You Are Hot

You Are Hot

Shows when heat makes your thirst drain faster.

Comfortable Conditions

Comfortable Conditions

Shows when shade, shelter, or similar conditions reduce thirst drain.

Liquid Encumbrance

Liquid Encumbrance

Highlights movement penalty from carrying too much liquid.

Nutrition Deficit

Nutrition Deficit

Shows your accumulated nutrition deficit value.

How to read statuses quickly
  • If you see Thirst, your movement is already affected.
  • If you see Critical Thirst, you are in danger and should recover immediately.
  • Hot and Comfortable Conditions explain why your thirst may drain unusually fast or slow.
  • If no status is shown, there is usually no meaningful effect to react to right now.
Why this mod exists

In active gameplay, it is often hard to understand what exactly is affecting your character right now.

  • Why is my character suddenly so slow?
  • Am I hot right now, or is my temperature stable?
  • Why is thirst draining this fast?

HOD Visualizer answers these questions with clear icons and plain-language tooltips, so you can react faster and make better decisions.

What this gives you in practice
  • Faster understanding of why your movement changed.
  • Clear visibility of heat and comfort effects on thirst.
  • Immediate warning when thirst reaches dangerous levels.
  • Less confusion during combat, travel, and resource runs.

The goal is simple: spend less time guessing and more time surviving.

HOD Visualizer - Changelog

Release 1.0.0

First public release focused on clear, readable Hydrate Or Diedrate status feedback.

Added
  • Initial HOD Visualizer mod scaffold with status-strip integration.
  • Status evaluators for thirst tiers, heat/cold effects, liquid encumbrance, and nutrition deficit.
  • Localized status titles/tooltips and dedicated icon set for all supported statuses.
  • Smoke-testing and implementation documentation for stable iteration workflow.
Changed
  • Thirst status logic now uses hydration breakpoints (`0..600` and `<= 0`) instead of percentage-only display.
  • Heat/comfort status visibility refined to hide near-zero thirst-rate effects.
  • Tooltip VTML formatting updated to remove top empty space and leading spacing artifacts.

Teotale When I first launched this mod I think I could change some settings like location of the icons? If thats so, how can I re-open that settings window? I went with the default and now the icons is over the minimap. I might be completely off tho?

Just a heads up the hyperlink for "Player Status HUD" on the Dependencies section links to " https://mods.vintagestory.at/playerstatusstrip " still, and not what I assume was intended to be " https://mods.vintagestory.at/playerstatushud  ".

The mismatched link may cause confusion for others as well

Brief correction; your library was initially titled "Player Status Strip" (and says so, by filename) but the hyperlink in page description sends you to "Player Status HUD".

No big deal, everyone will get it the mod from Teotale requires a backend from Teotale, so they'll figure it out, it just seems a little weird. Also, happy to see the prior recommendation of parting out the interface features into its own library coming in handy to help reduce overall development and work duplication.

This is the first release version, so it’s bound to have bugs. Let me know what you think)
