Ever wish you could hang lanterns from a chain or rope? I sure have!

This mod adds craftable chains (and ropes) which count as solid blocks on the top and bottom, allowing things like lanterns to hang off from them.

All chains, save for the rusty chain, are crafted through smithing, with recipes for every vanilla metal type (even types normally unobtainable in vanilla). One or two chains can be crafted at a time. While an ingot technically has enough metal for two chains, it's recommended to use plates for that recipe. The rusty chain can be crafted from any clutter rusty chain or the chain (support beam) block. Rope lengths are crafted from either coils of rope or the rope (support beam) block, and old rope lengths are crafted using old rope (support beam) block.

New in 1.1.0, rusty chains can be made in a barrel by soaking 1 iron, meteoric iron, or steel chain links in 5L of brine. Old ropes can be crafted by soaking rope lengths in 5L of weak tannin. Both recipes also work for the new half-length items, but they must be soaked in pairs (2 chains/ropes per 5L).

New in 1.1.0, short chains are crafted with the full-length chain and a saw, and short ropes are crafted with a full-length rope and shears.

1.1.0 Update!

  • Adds half-length chains and ropes, which are placed identically to slabs. Unfortunately they follow the same rules as slabs, meaning they can't occupy the same block as another slab, and lanterns don't stick to the underside of top-slabs. Use them to add more dynamic lengths to your builds!
  • Fixed z-flickering issues.
  • Added barrel recipes to make rusty chains and old rope.
  • Added file version to the name of the zip.

Known issues:

There's a rendering issue in the handbook for crafting rusty short chain links and old short rope lengths in a barrel. Both recipes still work.

There's a very minor amount of z-flickering when stacking chains on top of each other.  Fixed!

Please let me know if you find any bugs! ♥

Are these chiselable?

Weird question, I know. But oftentimes I have ceilings that are half a block, with the bottom half missing. I would love to add lanterns to them, but so I have to create an ugly mock support for them by chiseling every time. If I could just insert half a chain...

They are not. I thought about making them chiselable, but because their hitboxes aren't a full block I was afraid how things would interact.

Actually, now that I'm trying to find the json value to make them chiselable (I swear I saw it before), I can't find it. It's possible the block needs to have "drawtype": "cube" in order to be chiseled, meaning the block can't have a unique model.

....I wonder if it's possible to make half-chains that act like slabs. I need to learn more about these shape files. Being able to have the chain model change like how walls change shape would solve the z-flickering too.
