Latest release (for Vintage Story 1.22.2 - 1.22.3, potentially outdated):
geargeous_2.5.101.zip 1-click install
Hi hey ;)
After few years of playing Vintage Story I've noticed, that theres missing such important thing, or creators didn't focused on that yet so I did. Theres clockmaker class, clockmaker glasses, gears everywhere even on the sky during temporal storms, bu theres totally no way to play with gears. Maybe some fun with mills, but for me it's not enough. So I decided to recreate watchmaker mechanics from my concept game/simulator into the Vintage Story directly and this is the result. You cave 3 levels of gears on each mechanism board (thats why there are only 3 hands available at max. but you can make 2 or 1 if you need, it's all up to you). Balance wheel is still not polished yet as well as escapement wheel. To make a custom clock face, to need to sculpt a block, then take it to your sexy hand and right click on a mechanism board that doesnt have any clock face installed yet. To get it back... well to get everything back, just hold CTRL + aim on it + RMB (Right Mouse Button). I probably left some outdated hints, cause I'm working on this mod for a while, but I'm already too sleepy to change that, that's why I'm writing this manual :).
Works well in survival. Ohh and to craft mechanism board, just put four wood plank blocks (any) in a shape of square. I think the rest is pretty obvious + theres video ;). I still got so many ideas for this mod, and its definitely not even alpha, but you know I need to sleep ;D, so have fun. (Some interactions can work strange when the mechanism board is installed on a wall - like aiming on it to adjust things - so the best way is to break it (in survival), get it and put it on the floor while you working on it, then when its finished, install it on the wall). When clock face is installed, no interactions are available with mechanism, you need to take out the clock face, then you can wind up the cloch or modify it. If clock hands has not nice looking offset and they are too high or low, you should make a presto tool in Gear cutter (requires iron bar, not brass). Then with presto RMB on a clock will adjust clock hands height.
Clockmaker glasses now has it's functionality - they show you colored layers of your cogwheels mechanisms so it's easier to design mechanisms.
Have fun! And don't forget to wind up your clocks!

Attention! This update changes all items/blocks ID of previous mod version, but it's one time only, I won't change it anymore in future updates, sorry for that π . You gonna need to just build your clocks again.
Small updates for now:

How do the settings of the balance wheel relate to the time in game? If I set the balance wheel to 100% does one full "tick tock" equal an in game second?
Awesome mod!!!!
What if you could use temporal gears as an infinite source of perfectly constant rotational energy?
quick question, theoritically, how large (thick/long) can you make the clock hands?
16 means one full block length, and the maximum is 160, so you can make 10 blocks long hands, while the width is for now only 4, but definitely I need to change it, cause it fits great for small clocks of 1-3 blocks size, but for such huge clocks its to slim :), cause huge clocks are the new not fully ready feature in Geargeous. I just need some time to update it, cause everytime I post update, I also update my other mods... + I got +3 mods more that weren't published yet at all and they are waiting too, but Geargeous has a lot of things to fix, add, tune and it costs a lot of time, so I need to find such time
Super cool idea
Thanks π
This is so cool! Thank you for your work.
βΊοΈ thank you for kind words!
the clockmaker can finally make a clock. crazy it took this long for someone to make it. really cool idea ill be following for sure.
Thank you ;)
following this mod closely. please continue active support.
Of course! Thanks ;)
Holy crap
π
Heya, love your mod. Could help a bit with GUI building if you would like to share the code on github :D
Hey! Thank you π. Code won't be shared, but for now you can tell your friends about Geargeous or send me some feedback if you want to help me π
awesome AWESOME mod, finally I can make a clocktower (that is if bigger clocks are available)
are clock-hand variants planned?
Yup, for now there's only one a bit boring shape available, but yes, I plan to add few more. You already can make clock towers, just set bigger clock hands (every 16 means one block length, and I recommend 2-3 width for hands longer than 80) ;)
Hi, minimal amount of teeth should be between 14 and 17 for gear to properly work. Just saying
Can be even 4-5 :)
I would disagree. Its wrong from mechanical point of view.
How? I'm playing with real mechanical clocks and I saw such small cogwheels as well. Even if its on escapement wheel, it still exist :). Well yes, maybe 4 would be too crazy, 5 could be possible I think, but 6 exists, but yes, you're right ;)
Oh i see, i just was teached to always construct wheels with minimum 14, best minimum 17 teeth for long mechanism durability. Honestly im surprised that 7 teeth wheel doesnt slide, because of its geometry
we gearing it
π
:0 one more request, can you add some way to manually turn a gear without a spring? i have an idea for a mechanical alloy calculator
Explain please, how you see it, then We will see ;)
I'm thinking some way so you can right click a gear and it will move by one discerete step, or a more complicated solution would be holding right click and moving the mouse left or right to move it continuously. Either one of these could work!
Hmm, what about special gear that allows for that? Or a physical button connected to a specific gear?
Yep! That's what I'm thinking about too, Either one of those could work, but a special gear would be best
Added to my list! Sounds nice and useful
This is what I allways wanted for late game tech. Imagein if translocators needed to be custom claibrated for desitinations.
Glad you like it ;D
How large of a clock could someone make? I play with Wilderlands Rustbound that has lunar cycles for different enemy spawn conditions, and a large big ben style clock to see the cycle stage across the city would be great
Seems like good idea! The biggest clock you can make right now is one block size. I already started some interactions between neighbour placed mechanism blocks and you can expand your mechanisms this way, but if you want such big multi board mechanisms, for now just don't use balance wheel, cause its not yet polished. And if you ask about clock hand size, the biggest hand you can produce is with 16 lenth and I recommend maximum of a 0.5 of width. Demo clock tower (that you can see in screenshots here) has tle longest hand of this size (16 length, 0.5 width). I'll increase maximum clock hand lenght in next updates
im now wondering if pocket watches are on the list of plans because i would be properly dragging a youtube chanel i have JUST to do the full work. (wrist watch revival good long form content if ya like watches)
Yup, pocket watches are also on my To Do list, but later, cause still I need to adjust balance wheel, escapement wheel model and few more things :). I was also thinking about wrist watches that works even on your hand. It may be hard to do, but I will do such experiments later as well. In plans I got: big gears for example for clock towers, medium gears (like these I already demonstrated), and microscopic ones for such things like pocket/wrist clocks
if i have to drag a channel out of storage just to have something to refer to imm considering the mod detailed (and thats a good thing as i have a strange addiction to getting over my head) sense i enjoy hex casting even if i suck with it in minecraft :\
so ill be no doubt having this on the side of my pile
this would be super cool as some kind of 'automation' mod to trigger chutes, doors, and other machines via clockwork mechanisms! have you thought of adding support for the in-game mechanical power?
Yes, cause I think that it would be more realistic to add external power source from the river or wind mill into the Gear cutter for example like it was done in the history :). And for sure I'll add some more automation
This looks insanely cool and brilliant!
Thank you! ;D
pretty damn cool especially seeing it work with custom gearing and such.
looks to be very useful if at some point one could link an output of this to the "Electrical progressive", "steamworks" and/or "Signals" mods and such... even only to vanilla toggles and whatnot so one can make timed and time operated machinery.
very neat.
i wonder if at some point we can make big castle clock towers with big gears and huge pendulums to go with them haha.
Thanks! And yes, this mod will have big gears as well ;), cause I was testing that already, so clock towers will be also possible to make with big gears. Well it is technically possible already, just change the clock hand's size for something bigger like (width 0.5 and length 16 [Im gonna add loger hands soon, cause now maximum hand length is 16]) and then you can install custom clock face on it and build the rest of the big clock face around the mechanism board block so its gonna look like a big clock face ;) [I already added one clock tower example on screenshot where the longest hand has length of 16 and width of 0.5]
neat, happy to know things will expand more.
will be keeping an eye on this mod.
i saw the screenshot, for a storefront or town hall that's looking swell.
though i meant even larger sizes. such as in the big ben clock size or say the huge pendulum and associated clock as seen swinging in the magical clocktower of hogwarts in harry potter and similarly huge stuff.
can't really make that just yet currently :)
anyhow, looking forward to more!
^^ yup, don't worry, I'll make it possible soon, so you can even recreate a Makkah Royal Clock haha ;D
I increased hands length limit from 16 (one block size), to 160, so you still need to use small mechanism boards, but you can produce giant clock hands. Still I need to fix color picker, but the rest should work pretty well in this version. Just be aware, that with this mod version I've changed ID names of every item, cause I was changing mod name (it wont happen anymore, but I needed this time). In future, I'll change it back soon to limit small mechanism boards back to 16, cause I plan to add such huge clock hands only for big cogwheel mechanisms, but I didnt made them yet so for now you can test it this way ;)
neat, as a stopgap measure until you make the proper assets that's a nice solution.
thank you for informing everyone :D
π doing my best
hey, looks nice, def gonna try this out.
if you want, my mod SeraphTechLibrary has a method of making brass, bronze, cupronickel and steel gears, if you wanna play around with it/add compatibility! :D
Hello there! Seems like great idea ;). I'll think about it after adding these things I got in my plans first ;D cause I already got pretty long list to realize first. Compatibility between mods is always great idea :D, thanks!
this looks insanly cool(cool praca dyplomowa)
Thanks and dziΔki ;D
