A relatively simple patch here! If you stick a firepit under an oven and light it up - it will start to heat it up! This lets you cook and everything with a natural looking oven, and fueled with any sort of fuel or burnables. The Firepit should also be functional for other matters or cooking as well, and still heat the oven above it! To get it to work, just make sure the Oven is directly above the firepit with no space in between, that's all!
This idea was commissioned by Red Eclipse! So I'm uploading it for anyone to use as well - and I'm considering tossing together a few other ideas along with this, maybe in another mod with config toggles and everything to better tweak what you do and don't want to play with. Not too much of a single theme there but more stuff that I'd probably like to see in the game! Or things that might be helpful for builders or the like, one thing being a way to mark a larger 'room' as a proper room and everything for those larger builds.

Initial Release! Runs as described on the description, though any other mods that might change the maxTemperature of the Oven will allow it to get fairly hot as well! |
Could this be made to work with the braziers from Medieval Expansion?
Rythillian | Huh. I didn't even realize Dana's Tweaks had that in it until now. So as of now, I'm not sure it differs much at all! It seems like we wanted to do the same thing, so I figure it would function similarly.
How does this differ from DanaCraluminum 's Dana Tweaks?
When I'm running this mod, the heating via firepit works but the vanilla method of putting logs inside the oven does not.
Running it with expanded foods but not much else that should touch ovens
I also get the same issues as mavman88.
I also have to fully restart the game to fix it.
I'll try and post some more helpful information if I find it.
But I also have 70+ mods installed
I still love this mod, its super cool!!
mavman88 | Huh, that's peculiar, I'll try and look into it! Thank you for doing that testing and figuring that out! It helps immensely.
so my testing has founded that if i reload the world or save and quit it stops working and only after fully closing the game it starts working again.
Vibycko acwell | Yeah, sorry! It should be Expanded Foods that adds that.
mavman88 | If you can find a pattern or a way to re-create it, I can try and find a solution. But it might be something another mod is doing as well?
Vibycko It should be expanded food
Out of curiosity, how did you put meat and berries in the clay ovens? To me it says "Oven is full", when I try and put then in. Is it a different mod?
for some reason i can't figure out why this mod sometimes works and sometimes doesn't, it worked the first time i used it then all the sudden stopped and i was able to randomly fix it but now its back to being broken
Vibycko | Oh, awesome! Thanks for checking it out, and I'm glad it works too! It certainly should cook anything and everything that can cook in a regular oven - and I did use pies to test it originally as well, hah.
JonR I just tested in in singleplayer, and the QP Chisel tools are compatible with the mod, the firepit heat the "Decorative oven" and bread gets baked. Didn't test pies, but I'm sure they work too.
melboryu | Huh! I'm not sure. I didn't try to change that or anything on purpose, does it happen with just this and nothing else? I've only ever really used the Stone Bake oven myself (my beloved :P) and with this being relatively recent, I haven't been able to give it a shot in regular gameplay. I don't think having an old placed one should cause a problem if it still can heat up and everything from the firepit... but maybe try replacing it and checking?
Vibycko | I'm not sure! If the Chiseled Oven extends the regular vanilla oven and just uses the vanilla oven's code for everything, then it probably should work fine! I'd figure that is the case, but I've not tried it out yet, so let me know if you do!
Does this work with QPtools? Like, if you have custom chiseled oven, does the firepit heat that up too? I'd love to use this on my server, but I need to make sure it's compatible.
This looks like an awesome mod I had not even considered as an option for the game, will definantly need to see how it works with other mods I run.
Not only that, but coming from someone who likes to try to build big things and also likes the snow, I am excited to see what you do with making larger rooms more habitable!
this should be in the base game
Yesssssss! I was just looking around for a mod to make the vanilla ovens a bit more fuel friendly (why not let us use charcoal at least??) and this definitely takes the cake! Thanks a bunch!!
once the firepit under an oven cools down, the oven loses heat extremely quickly. is this intentional behavior?
(I'm using a firepit I put down after installing the mod, and an oven that was there before installing, if that might change anything . . .)
Michaloid | Haha, thank you for the kind words! I'm glad you find it helpful!
AcidNight | Larger doors? Yeah, it's certainly plausible to do, it's only that the more blocks that make up the door, the harder it is to sync it all up properly and everything as well as smoothly animate and open/close it. I've seen a few examples in other mods already of larger doors, but they are fairly specific like a castle door or drawbridge, or very realistic church doors. Certainly a mod with average medieval style doors would be wonderful to have! Also you could try making chiseled doors using QP Chisel tools!
Why isn't this basically possible to do, I want to ask xD
I should look into how to code a mod. One thing that bothers me in VS is that 3x3 or 3x4 doors don't exist. There's a life bridge or wall door in 3x, but it's not considered a door :(
You, are an angel! This is soo helpful!
