What do?
This mod allows you to craft feed from seed bags! All your excess seeds from foraging and tending your farm can now be ripped open (with a knife) to get grains/legumes at a return of 1:1.
My mod is a one-way recipe patch, but should work seamlessly with the original mod (see below) if you want to bag and unbag your grains.
How do?
Simply place any valid seed (any grain, or peanut/soybean) into the crafting grid, then any knife into any other slot.
Why do?
Because I ran into an issue consistent to all my worlds, and wanted to finally solve it: once I had a farm actually established, all my harvests would overproduce seeds that I had absolutely no use for, and chucking them out felt wasteful. Now, all those extra flax seeds can feed the chickens!
Why only grains and nuts/beans?
Because Mother Nature didn't make carrot seeds the tasty part of the veggie, and we also don't have potatoes in Vintage Story. :(
Big thanks to BluePhoenix - this is a simple, reversed+edited version of their Seeds from Grains mod, uploaded with their permission! ๐งก

Updated: version requirement to 1.22 or higher - additional testing found feedfromseed is incompatible with older game versions (unknown cause, likely ID changes between versions) | |||||||

would it be possible to add compatibility with floral zones? because having a crop like cotton for example, it gets annoying having over 2000+ excess seeds with no use.
I can certainly have a look! No guarantee for it being quick, but I'm a lil' more familiar with patching for other mods now. c:
that is wonderful!
Hey! So, I've finally gotten around to looking at Floral Zones. Unfortunately they're not updated to 1.22, and in the process of testing for it, I've actually found that FeedfromSeed is NOT compatible with older versions of the game, likely because of structure changes to how seeds/crops are handled.
So, save making an entirely new mod for pre-1.22, unfortunately I can't add compatible recipes until Floral Zones updates. ๐
your efforts will help many vs farmers thank you for your service
the idea is great...but
it would be even greaterer cough when there would be a version number or smth like this in the name ๐ฌ
ty for your work
To be fair, I only really have one version of the mod. ๐ No point in attaching a v. suffix if I don't plan for any future releases, at least not after that lil' syntax tagger!
If I do push another update - if somebody pings me to look into a compatibility for example - I'll be sure to append a version #. ๐
Quality of Life mods like this that do such specific things to resolve constant thorns-in-sides "smaller" issues are the true unsung heroes of the modding scene for games like this. There's always a "little thing" that bothers me, not enough to make me hate the game but enough to make me go "but why" every time I run into it.
Thank you so much for taking the time, and I LOVE your thumbnail work too! It's got that "small mod that'll eventually become a mainstay in everybody's load order" kind of vibe to it. (That, and, if you ask me, the mod itself itself already deserves that even without the fun thumbnail.)
Brilliant! I always wondered why so many people want to turn produce into seeds, when my problem usually tends to be having too many seeds. This is the mod I didn't realize I needed until now :D
It makes me so happy to see so many people had my exact issue, it was worth learning to make the bandaid. :'3
Is the `.lang` file easy enough to edit on the user's side to make a Chuck's compatible version?
No lang.json is included, I'm afraid! It's just a pair of recipes, though if you're at all familiar with these lego bricks, I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard?
Guess I'll just keep Sneeding, then.
Thank you! I needed this
Thank you for liking my lil' slice of QoL! :3
