Description
You can chisel everything in your house, but not floors. If you want to place stuff on it, the floor needs to have full-height blocks. This mod aims to fix that. It allows for items to be placed on chiseled blocks no matter their height(provided they are flat). Similar to Place on slabs, but for arbitrary chiseled blocks instead.
The supported items are too many to list, but I tried to be thorough. I probably missed some, so let me know! The highlights:
- piles
- storage containers
- firepits
- torches/lanterns
- multiblocks like trunks and beds
- modded items should also work, but if not, let me know and I'll add support!
Explicitly not supported:
- Doors: it would leave empty space above it that can't be filled in. This is a harder problem that I might revisit in the future
- Mechanical items: The entire mechanical system would have to be offset by the same amount for it to make visual sense. I don't plan on supporting this.
It also works upside-down for items like lanterns that can be ceiling-mounted!
Is this a replacement for Place on slabs? No, in fact it does not support slabs, only chiseled blocks. So it's more of a complementary mod.
Note: this is a visual/collision offset. Logically, the item is still placed on the air block on top of the block, meaning nothing else can be put there.
Safe to add/remove to ongoing saves?
Yes, things will just float in mid-air if removed
You may also like my other chiseling mods!
Dense ground storage: Allows placement of small things, like pots and bowls, inside chiseled blocks. On the surface it looks similar to this mod, but that one is different in a way that one block can have many items, and this one is basically a vertical offset.
Chiseled Wall Mounting: Same idea as this one, but for wall-mounted things
Better insulation: Makes the logic for determining if a chiseled block is insulating, so chiseled windows become possible

I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong but I think placing the lightning rod on a chiseled surface doesn't work?
any chance this could work with cabinets?
i got a slight bug with trunks one hitbox of the trunk shifts up denying any placement on that point so cant make beautiful storage shelfes :c (i would post a pic but the upload size limit is way too low even for small cropped pic :c
Edit: made the picture 50% quality which made me able to upload it c:
I don't think this is a bug, unfortunately.

For your shelves to work, the mod would need to actually have the trunk occupy the same blocks as the chiseled shelves, which seems much more difficult and would probably create more issues than it would solve.
Would this mod happen to allow placement of items on top of piles (IE charcoal piles)?
Trying to narrow down an edge-case CTD I've run into.
Queltis
No. It allows coal piles to be placed on chiseled blocks, but not items to be placed on top of coal piles. If you have a crash report, I could try to help
would be cool if we can put stuff on stone path
why would you put stuff on a path?
That's not a planned feature, I'll limit this mod to chiseled blocks only
Okay, so I'm getting a crash. I have a lot of mods, but it's saying it's between this wonderful mod and Temporal Symphony. Which makes sense as it happens when the rumble effect of a storm happens. Anyways, just thought to stop by and let ya know!
8/18/2026 8:50:29 PM: Critical error occurred in the following mods: chiseledgroundplacement@0.2.1, temporalsymphony@2.3.2
Should be fixed now!
Would fixing the alignment of the wire overlay for smithing on an anvil be possible? I really really love the look of a raised anvil - which is more irl accurate as they should be approximately hip height - but its functionally unuseable as the wiremesh is offset vertically, often substancially. Given that logistically speaking the block is still placed on the above the chisled surface, I don't think this could be altered. Food for thought or maybe you could futz around with it?
Eitherway, I absolutely love this mod, and have incorperated its features into nearly every single one of my new builds since installing it; my counter tops have never been so intricate. Excellent mod!
The anvil overlay is now fixed. And I'm glad you love the mod as much as I do!
As someone who went through the heartbreak of finding out that you cannot chisel your own non-full height block furniture in vanilla, my life is yours. Thank you for being the absolute GOAT and making this mod -- it's never ever leaving my modlist.
I'm glad you like it! Making usable furniture is one of the main reasons I make my mods
Made a patch to fix an issue I found with Metal Cooking Pots not accounting for the Y offset when in a campfire!

Getting seemingly random crashes while chiseling with this mod installed:
Does the crash happen when looking at something placed on a slab? This mod does not patch RayIntersectsBlockSelectionBox, the function that is crashing. I think this crash is from Place on slabs.
Seems to happen exclusively while holding a chisel and looking at a chiseled block. All I can say is it starting happening immediately after installing this mod.
Ok, so probably a conflict between this and Place on slabs. But I can't reproduce it, I need more information to pinpoint what is happening: does it happen for every chiseled block? If it happens only on specific blocks, what is special about them? Are you using slabs? Does the chiseled block have something placed on it? What? The more information, the better
Unfortunately I have found nothing consistent about it other than a chisel in hand, and the crosshair over a chiseled block. Sometimes there's a slab nearby, sometimes there isnt. Sometimes there's something on top, sometimes there isn't. Happens with planks, happens with cobblestone, happens with dirt.
I wonder if it isn't actually some conflict with Optitime.
I also play with Optitime (and ecomachina, for that matter), and it doesn't crash. Without a repro I'm afraid I can't do much... Could you make a creative world and try to reproduce the crash there? Then tell me exactly what you did. Your complete modlist would also help.
Bro has been on a mission with all these placement mods lately. All of these have been features I've wanted in game since I first started playing!
Any chance you can also fix chiseled windows losing the interior rain against glass audio? As someone who loves the rainy vibes, but also custom chisel windows, that has always been a big bummer.
Nice suggestion! I implemented it on the better insulation mod
The actual GOAT. Thank you! I'll have to test it out soon!
I am honestly really surprised no one else has ever fixed that issue. I have even asked other relevant modders about it in the past, and none of them ever did lol.
best mod ever!
Bless you for all of your placement mods. I feel like this stuff should have just been worked into the main game-- considering how versatile chiseling can be.
Question though, can you use dense ground storage on a chiseled block with this?
Thanks! I'm on a journey to bring more chiseling freedom, and I'm not done yet! More mods to come ;)
About the question: Yes! These mods are made to work together. Obviously, you can't put stuff on the same surface the big item is on, but you can put them elsewhere in the block. In my survival world, for example, I made a half-height kitchen cabinet with a recessed firepit on top and a shelf on the bottom to store pots.
