The Bola is a primitive throwing weapon — typically made of weights attached to ropes — used to immobilize small and medium-sized creatures. When thrown, it wraps around a target’s legs or body upon impact, ensnaring them.
The Bola immobilizes creatures for 20 seconds, keeping them rooted in place.
Big(like bear and moose), mechanical and corrupted creatures cannot be immobilized!
Bola also cannot be recovered when it hits a creature that can be immobilized!
If Bola hits ground, it will break, leading to 2-4 ropes appearing in place of the hit. If Bola hits a creature that cannot be immobilized, 1-2 ropes will appear in place of the hit instead.
Immobilized creatures cannot be mounted, and players caught in a Bola cannot mount any creatures.
Hitting the creature a player is riding, or the player themselves, with Bola will dismount the rider.
If player becomes entangled in a Bola, they can select an empty Hotbar slot and press the Left Mouse Button to free themselves.
If player wants to release a creature caught in a Bola, they can attack it with empty Hotbar slot while Sneaking to remove the bola.
As of v1.1.0, Bolaed entities can be tied with rope.
Generation of creature gets set to minimum of 2 for it to work, but resets to original value when Bola effect expires or rope gets attached.
As generation is set to minimum of 2, not all creatures can be ropetieable!
If entity gets tied with rope, duration of immobilized state becomes 80 seconds. That allows players to drag creatures with ropes.
If rope gets untied from creature(if player unties it, or rope breaks of extensive force, or immobilized effect expires), creature can't be tied with rope again and duration of immobilized effect will be reset to at least 5 seconds of remaining immobilized time. Player needs to throw new Bola after the old one expires to drag a creature with rope again.
Creatures from following mods can be stunned with Bola.
Rest of the mods either have creatures that can not realistically be bolaed(e.g. big and strong like moose, lions, dinos), or I didn't make a patch for them. If you want specific mod to be compatible with this mod, tell me in the comments.

I gave this a try. I missed the goat I was trying to capture and lost the bola. As it takes 4 ropes and I am in an artic world where rope is a precious resource, I really can't afford to use this.
Perhaps instead of losing the bola entirely each time, it could be given a durability rating like all the other tools? (Although I'm guessing it's modeled on throwing a rock and not on a tool, but it ought to be modeled on a spear, in that you throw it, but can recover it from the ground, and after so many throws, it is destroyed.)
This error keeps popping up whenever I load a world, I don't know if it actually has an effect on anything but I thought I should report this.

crumps You need just 1 rope to tie an animal, simply right click an animal with it and it will be tied (if minimum generation for being ropetiable was achieved of course). Use F to select to extend or shorten rope. But remember, rope system in the game is a bit bugged for now
I'm actually curious cuz I've never tied an animal yet in general in the game, how does that work? Is there a certain amount of rope to have minimum, and right right click while its immobilized?

If there's a chance you could add compatibility for the critters pack, namely ducks so I don't have to run after them anymore, I would appreciate you so much!
I can't really think of another critter from that that would fit as squirrels and rats and such are so small. Maybe a miss animation since they're so small? Or just kill them since it's rocs hitting them lol

Centur1on i don't know exactly what it is, lol, but it's just a box that pops up and says "Launching [singleplayer/multiplayer (?) server," tells you the mods being loaded as they're loaded, and shows you the errors as they're encountered. I've seen this type of error plenty in the past, where a FotSA mod has a missing aitasks error. I don't THINK I have been using a mod manager, other than recently using the VS Mod Updater (the one that has the super aggressive Windows Defender response)
tyrOS If it's only for 2 species from Capreolinae, then I guess it is the moose (Alceini), both male and female versions. No compatibility for them is intended, same as for the vanilla moose.
I wonder how you spotted that as an error, did you get it from game's logs or some mod manager I don't know about?
This may just be a mod conflict between this and some other mod, but as far as I can tell, the Capreolinae compatibility is broken. it finds everything else perfectly, but "aitasks" could not be found for like 2 species of deer.

Does this mod work with Modded in animals like Fauna series?
What is considered a big creatures (in case of modded entities) ?
Is it based on size or on HPs ?
I don't want to try a wolf or a lion and finding out it doesn't work ...
Vrael Entity that is caught in a Bola gets generation set to 2 if it's generation was less than 2(including if it was a wild animal which is 0). Generation of 2 lets some creatures, like sheeps, be ropetieable, but some(especially modded ones) need further generation to be ropetieable, that's why not every creature can be dragged with rope if it was bolaed. And after bola effect expires, generation is reset to it's original value.
Wait so which entities will be able to be tied with rope? After using Bola can we tie up any wild animal and drag them with rope? Or will that only work with domesticated animals?

-Players now receive notifications when attempting to move or mount an entity while caught in a Bola.
-Entity tooltip now shows it's remaining immobilized effect duration.

Would it be possible to use this alongside a lead? So animals will stop resisting being pulled and instead can be dragged while snared?
The lack of recoverability is probably good to counterbalance how powerful an ability this is. If you could use it freely all the time, it would take most of the risk and effort out of hunting in VS.
On the other hand, it says it only immobilizes for 20 seconds, which is quite good but not game-breaking. Maybe it should be recoverable, but not durable.
Really neat mod idea. I kinda wanna try this on a Shiver...
I feel that due the amount of rope this item costs, it should be recoverable. If not as a whole, then at least in it's constituent pieces, or with the item's durability worn down.
