Have you ever questioned the point of using higher quality metals for nails? This mod makes it so that higher quality metals yield more nails. If you'd like to check out more quality of life changes check out my other mod VintageTweaks!

Nail Yields by Metal

  • Low QualityCopper, Gold, Silver (Too soft or brittle)

    • Standard: 3 • Bulk: 6

  • Medium-Low QualityBismuth Bronze, Black Bronze (Softer than ideal)

    • Standard: 4 • Bulk: 8

  • Medium QualityTin Bronze (Stronger but brittle)

    • Standard: 6 • Bulk: 8

  • Medium-High QualityIron (Strong and flexible)

    • Standard: 8 • Bulk: 16

  • High QualityMeteoric Iron (Stronger and flexible)

    • Standard: 10 • Bulk: 20

  • Very High QualitySteel (Very sturdy and flexible)

    • Standard: 12 • Bulk: 24

COMPATIBILITY NOTE:
This mod will most likely not be compatible with any mod that adds new types of ingots and nails. I'll eventually make a simple config for (hopefully) easy customization and compatibility.

Tried (very briefly) to add meteoric steel compatibility but it didn't work so I gave up as I don't play with that mod. I'll note that this mod will most likely be incompatible with mods that add new ingots/nails in them. If enough people ask I will make it compatible, but for the most part it will be vanilla or whatever mods I use compatible.

Then I also changed around Copper and Bismuth bronze because of the lovely information from _Spy_ which I liked in the comments.

Found an incompatibility with Meteoric Steel.  It removes the ability to smith M-Steel nails entirely.  Not tested with other metal mods.

I personally would have swapped bismuth bronze and copper, pure copper that hasn't been work hardened is comically soft and pliable and would make for a really terrible nail

There's a whole reed forest that we could go into with metallurgy, but I'd place nearly any copper alloy above copper itself, as the impurities in coper are what make it stronger

OrdinalChaos check the stats of tools made with those three types of bronze. They are still different enough to be ranked amoungst themselves.

Different types of bronze produce items with different stats. Broadly speaking, the best bronze items are made of black bronze, followed by tin bronze and bismuth bronze.

Updated to include rationals! Bismuth bronze is very brittle and would most likely not make the best nails and would have to be bigger to compensate for this. Black bronze was in the wrong spot (my bad) but it is only slightly harder than copper. Tin bronze is technically more sturdy than iron but a part of a nails usefulness is its flex which is why I put iron ahead (I am also biased on team iron). Steel is the best because it is less brittle and stronger than iron, but meteoric iron was an insert based upon game progression.

I like it! What's the rational for Bismuth and Black Bronze not being medium quality like Tin Bronze?
