A major Vanilla+ expansion to plants and flora in Vintage Story

The Biodiversity mod suite aims to provide more farmland crops, trees, wood types, flowers, grasses, herb plants, and more, while retaining near Vanilla game mechanics and high compatibility with other major mods.

A long term goal is to allow for a player to travel the world and always find new plants or materials to use, or a server to use the Biodiversity mods to build up trade networks of exotic flowers, woods, and herbs.

This is planned to be a community effort, with many modders contributing their skills and talents to provide the Vintage Story community with as much new flora as we can, in a manner that looks like the developers themselves could have added it, works out of the box with as many other mods as possible, and optimized as much as possible to prevent excess lag on older machines or large servers.

quihyr We're currently hard as work on our visual aspects of the mod, but we plan to have pictures soon.

We're looking for people willing to help build backdrops as well if you're interested.

It'd be nice if you could add some pictures to your mods, so I can visualize what it might look like in the world.
Not interested in downloading a mod based on words alone. Good luck!

Asil Spreading plants is kinda outside of biodiversity's scope, but it does sounds like a really fun idea! We don't plan to add new features that completely change how plants are propogated or used from vanilla, that way we can keep compat with other mods really easy.

Do checkout the discord though, as there are likely others that would be interested in spreading plants and collaberating with you on that idea specifically.

Just found this! In your future roadmap, may I suggest natural spread, like Bamboo, and vine growth? A modmaker from the Sandbox That Shall Not Be Named, spoiled me to creating flower fields, and harvesting part of a wild crop, then going back later to gather more after it had reseeded itself and created another few more besides. It also prettied up villages and roads Climbing roses and flowering vines would also be a nice touch. I have no clue where to start with moddin or coding, but now that I'm retired, I would like to try. Following now, checking out the Modding Cooperative in the morning.

Any screenshots of the plants so we can see what they look like

Makuta That's because we haven't quite added the herb plants into world gen yet.

We have the seeds in the creative menu, but because we currently have these herbs based on Wildcraft's old Herb module, but haven't organized the blocks to go with these seeds.

It's why we're heavily looking for people to help out. So please share these mods around your friends!

Makua, Feb 21st at 7:52 PM

This might just be my doofy-ass, but I've never been able to find any of the herbs your mod adds, I can see the seed bags in the Handbook but I've never been able to find any wild specimens of them.

wojtek16 Generally, I'm looking for people that can emulate how the vanilla game handles textures. We'll take anyone of any skill level as long as you're willing to learn.

wojtek16, Feb 19th at 7:57 PM

I love the idea, and can't wait to see the result of colaborative work on mods from the VS community!

For providing texture assistance, is there a specific requirement you are trying to stay in? I'll poke around in the discord but would definitely love to practice and take a stab at some florals!
